Question: anyone seeing excessive lost characters on SYSLINUX over serial port?
Hi all,
I have a user who is reporting excessive amounts of lost characters when
using SYSLINUX (PXELINUX actually) over a serial port at 38400 bps.
What is somewhat bizarre is that he has a very high quality server with
a Cyclades board, and yet he's losing characters in the PXELINUX->server
direction. Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks,

Partial authentication
Hello,
I would like to bring up the topic of possibly including partial
authentication functionality into OpneSSH again - it was discussed a few
weeks ago. I believe that implementing auth vectors was suggested as a way
to achieve this.
The reasoning behind the need for partial auth is that there are cases when
multiple methods of authentication are required for the user to be
successfully

centos on 64M 350Mhz pentimum II
...it fine. however on boot
it says low memory and it kills certain processes. httpd or sendmail.
I have a 2GIG swap and I did a chkconfig XXX off on a few things
like xfs, nfs, httpd, kudzu.
My old 2.4 kernel used to run in 4M with a swap...
I had recompiled the kernel (took a while) to enable the cyclades module.
Any suggestions on running with low memory, thanks,

CentOS serial questions (Hyperterminal equiv and connecting to server via Hyperterminal)
I have two serial-related questions
(1) What is the CentOS (or *nix) equivalent of Hyperterminal in Windows?
Sometimes I'm on a CentOS box and need to, say, console into a Cisco or
something.
and
(2) I have a CentOS server that I may need to transport somewhere and will
most likely *not* want to carry around the monitor. Where should I look in
connecting to my server via a serial

denial of service attack on login
Hi,
I''ve been writing a login application to utilize the features of both PAM
and libpwdb. Not surprisingly, this has meant looking at some old code..
The following denial of service attack seems to work quite nicely on my
ancient Red Hat 3.0.3 system with the standard login application. Perhaps
this is not a problem with 4.0? Does anyone know about other distributions?

Asterisk server with remote monitoring capabilities
Hello, all.
I'm tired of having to drive out to the colocation
facility each time my dedicated asterisk server craps
out, just to press the button to do a hard reboot.
(I'm running 1.05 stable at present, no telephony
hardware, as this is mainly a system that receives
calls, no dial-out ability is needed.)
I've been looking at the fancy xeon-based systems
listed on ebay for a couple

CYB driver now supports 32 ports
Brian Litzinger's CYB driver for the Cyclades 8Y, 8Yo, 16Y, and 32Y
now supports up to 32 ports per interface card.
You can ftp the 32 port driver from
ftp://ftp.mpress.com/pub/brian/cyb2.0-32fb.tar.gz
You can also get the driver via my web page at

Problem with Wins/Samba
...e and reachable from any system. I guess that I can start to
go through the code, but since I don't have the tech references on
WINS, it is difficult to understand what I must diagnose.
Many thanks.
p.s.: The network topology may seem strange. However, it wasn't until
receiently that the Cyclades multi-port routers supported NAT functions
and we wanted to have a two port router for the dedicated high speed
link to the remote site.
p.p.s.: I hate wins!! (Netbeui networks are much easier for small
systems.)

Unpredictables Hangups
Hello all,
i'm experiencing a list of unpredictables hangup on SIP phones using a PRI
E100P Card.
All i can see in logs is
" WARNING[81931]: File chan_zap.c, Line 5402 (zt_pri_error): PRI: Read on 37
failed: Unknown error 500"
I receive a lot of these errors in asterisk/messages.
It doesn't seem to be strictly linked to hangups, since i have dozen of
these messages per

The Smallest Asterisk Server Ever?
Hello all,
Saturday night, after a couple of shots of bourbon, I realized
that I had an old PC sitting in the garage that I could use as an Asterisk
gateway if I just blew the dust off it and reloaded it with a modern Linux
distribution. In my characteristically impulsive manner, I grabbed it and
started cleaning it up so that I could put it in my office without my wife
having a fit.
