2.5.5 build ignores $CPPFLAGS
(I'm not subscribed; Mail-Followup-To set.)
Contrary to the claim in the output of ./configure --help, $CPPFLAGS
is in fact not influential.

Binomial distribution & Catherine Loader's paper
Hi,
I've been trying, without success to find a copy of the paper, by Catherine
Loader, that describes the algorithn underlying the rbinom() and associated
functions. The title is "Fast and Accurate Computation of Binomial
Probabilities." All of the links to the paper that I've seen (including in
the R docs) lead nowhere (i.e. are 404). I've sent Dr. Loader several
emails,

samba pdc with ldap backend setup problems
...et put in there?
I'd prefer not to use ldap for anything other than samba related
users. Linux users should not by default get access. I'm hoping
this means I don't have to mess with Pam, is that correct?
Here's the config files...

[LLVMdev] cross-section differences in MC generation
I think that's incorrect. It should to:
.section .foo
.L1:
.L2 = .L1
.section .bar
.long .L3-.L2
.L3:
Because .L3 and .L2 are in different sections.

I noticed a similar problem with 1.2pre27 but didn't have time to
look into it until now.

OpenSSH 3.3 & privlege seperation?
Wondering --- I know theo sent out a message asking vendors to get off their butts to get privlege seperation working, so what I'm wondering is whether this is happening/working/etc with Solaris? (specifically 8)...I know this is a portability question, since Sun doesn't support SSH on solaris 8.
not on the list, so please CC me. thanks.

bindpw in ldap.conf
...file, is it necessary to have the bindpw line? From what I
have seen, ldap.conf needs to be world readable and having that entry
would seem to me to be a security risk. Am I right? If so, is there a
way round the security issue?
Thanks all.

[LLVMdev] cross-section differences in MC generation
I'm working on Position-independent code for 32-bit PowerPC, but
running into a problem. At the beginning of each function, there's a
pre-word that's the difference between the PICBase (.L1$pb) and the
GOT. This works fine when generating assembly output, but it fails
when generating ELF output, with the error "Cannot represent a
difference across sections" (line 847,

A question about stepwise procedures: step function
Dear all,
I tried to use "step" function to do model selection, but I got an error massage. What I don't understand is that data as data.frame worked well for my other programs, how come I cannot make it run this time. Could you please tell me how I can fix it?

Preserving ACLs on files when copying from NT4 server to Samba 3.0.5 server

two density curves in one plot?
Hello,
I was wondering if I can plot two curves I get from "density(data)" into
one plot. I want to compare both.
With the following commad, I just get one curve plotted:

Sorry for this stupid question but I could not find a solution until now...
