Compile Samba for Windows Use - SMBClient.exe mainly
does Pydio not accept UNC paths in place of a local path? this has worked for me in other php things, as long as IIS is running under an account with network share permissions. Samba over IPX
I would like to add my case for a wish of IPX support in Samba: We use a number of CNC tool machines whose host is pure DOS based. Don't be surprised that DOS is stilll running somewhere. It is fairly OK when we get to the field of HW and real-time control, unlike Windows and the like... These hosts use IPX to access LAN shares. IPX is here preferable to TCP/IP because of its lower memory

The network path was not found.
I am attempting to join a windows 7 computer running in virtual box to a samba4 domain (version 4.1.0pre1-GIT-243278a). I get prompted for credentials, I use the provisioned Administrator account, and then get the following: The Following error occured attempting to join the domain "ad.redacted.com" The network path was not found. speed of samba vs Windows
Is there any reason to believe that a samba server would be slower when serving up roaming profiles than a real Windows server? I know roaming profiles are slow by nature and that there are things you can do to help like configuring ffolder redirection. But all else being equal, how would a samba server compare to a Windows server when it comes to speed specifically with respect to roaming

unix fifo inaccessible via samba share
Issue: unix fifo (named pipe) does not appear in share, attempts to read the pipe result in "Access Denied" >From an XP laptop, I can open and access my samba share normally. I can read all files and subdirectories in the share, but a fifo I need to read does not appear at all. I have made the fifo mode 777 (world readable, writeable, executeable) and tried other things like

Configure File System for Shadow Copy
if I understand what you're asking, it's a good idea to keep your data partitions separate from your boot and application partitions. this applies to any server on pretty much any OS, and also applies to /home. so make a VG for sdb, and in case that guide isn't clear, don't make your logical volume take 100% of the VG or you won't have room for the shadows, which are actually

smbclient inconsistant auth issue
trying to get one server to mount.cifs a share on another and when it failed I used smbclient and it lead me into this oddity and I just can't seem to reason my way through. so you can skim better in case this is too much info: the mystery: why does command #3 work from server1 against itself, but fail for all other clients? server1: samba 3.4.7 (Ubuntu 10.04 server), NT4 domain member

Noob having troubles with slapd-populate authentication
I'm following the "The Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto" at http://samba.idealx.org/smbldap-howto.en.html and seem to have run into a problem... I'm to the point where I want to do the initial database population using smbldap-populate.pl, but when I run it, I'm getting: Using builtin directory structure adding new entry: dc=pirategames,dc=net failed to add entry:

samba 3.4.7 as NT4 domain member and win9x
I'm certain i'm just missing something and haven't hit the right search terms yet, however, the terms I've been trying all lead to others with the same problems and no solutions at all. My network is quite legacy, but has been working: nt4 PDC and BDC several samba file servers, various revisions DOS, Win95, Win98, NT4, 2k, xp clients I have an ubuntu 9.04 32bit samba 3.3.2
