MS Exchange IMAP Proxy
...? The examples I've seen all assume some sort of load balancing, which isn't an issue here, so I'd like to eliminate the need for an unnecessary database server. Does Dovecot do any cleanup of the IMAP commands that would be useful in protecting Exchange (from this, http://www.cvedetails.com/cve/CVE-2007-0221/ for example), or am I barking up the wrong tree? If Dovecot isn't helpful for this, can anybody point me to a better resource? Thanks! Terry

Icecast exploits?
...it would imply knowing about exploits in Icecast, but if we knew of any, of course we would have fixed them already. Note that older versions of Icecast sometimes did have security relevant issues with varying degrees of severity. Just like with any software. Icecast exploits?
Thank you, Philipp. It was things like buffer overflow attacks once connected as a source that I was concerned about. It's reassuring to hear that Icecast server is not exploitable. The Best Practices you suggested are good ones, I'll discuss them with station management. -- Jack Elliott Director of Classical Music Programming High Desert Community Radio KPOV Bend, Oregon On 11/23/23

Hi Rowland, Thanks for the update. The setup we have is unaltered from long time. Now we are asked to install the patch for CVE-2017-7494, since we are not running the affected version its fine for now. But can you please let me know what are vulnerabilities in 3.0.28 and any patches available for it. I will try to update it to the latest version on our dev servers first. Moreover we have the

Bourne shell deprecated?
Hello List, Today someone in a meeting claimed the Bourne shell is deprecated, one of the reasons being it supposedly has security issues. Well that's all news to me, and I cannot find anything online to corroborate the claim. Is this true, is it a bash vs. Bourne FUD, or something else? Thanks, Jack
