wiki HowTos/Custom_Kernel needs amendment
Hi,
I see more and more people attempt to rebuild the CentOS 5 kernel -
for example to get the legacy ISA card support turned on, etc. As Jim
said on #centos-devel, the Custom_Kernel wiki page is valid for C4 but
not so for C5. It seems that he does not have the time to update the
page at this moment. I suggest that at least a warning message
stating the instructions are not for C5 kernels should be added to the
page.

wiki howto on custom kernel
minor error on
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel?highlight=%28HowTos%29
the rpmbuild steps specifies kernel.spec, when in fact the filename is
kernel-2.6.spec, at least with 2.6.9-42.0.10.EL
this occurs a BUNCH of times on that wiki page... also kernel2.6.9 ->
kernel-2.6.9 on the cp command after 'configuring your kernel'

Recompiling the Kernel for CentOS 6.5
...customizing my configuration), I need to follow the following steps-
1. make bzImage
2. make modules
3. make modules_install
4. make install
but I get errors in the first step only-(make bzImage)
It was pointed out the CentOS-devel mailing list the below link-
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel
which allows me to create a rpm for my customized kernel and install it.
Now my question is there no method where in I can apply a kernel
source tree from kernel.org(maybe 3,x version) and install it on
Centos ?

CentOS 9 Stream on Workstation with Ver. 1 x86_64 cpu
...go upon reboot after install -- kernel panic.
Is there a way to recompile the kernel to handle the legacy cpu after
install -- via some other live cd, perhaps?
Due to the fact I can't reboot after install, I'm not able to build a
kernel using the following:
https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel
Sidenote: I'd also like to include support for btrfs too, but first things
first.
Thank you.

Article for wiki consideration
...e.nyc.rr.com/computertaijutsu/vserver.html
If it does get to the wiki, I would remove the fedora section and also
add a notice at the beginning of the article with dire warnings about
using a non-stock kernel. (I would probably copy the warning on red
background from http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel)
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Replacing kernel-headers with custom compiled version (from kernel.org) - safe?
Hello CentOS users,
Currently I have compiled kernel version 4.19.37, which the source is from kernel.org. I compiled the kernel by following
steps:
- get the kernel tarball and unpack it
- install prerequisties as described in https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel (in addition bc and openssl-devel)
- copy the kernel configuration:
$ cp /boot/config-3.10.0-957.21.3.el7.x86_64 ~/linux-4.19.37/.config
- create configuration:
$ cd ~/linux-4.19.37
$ make olddefconfig
$ make nconfig
- compile and create RPM package:
$ make vmlinux
$ make modules...

CentOS6: Building a modified kernel rpm
I'm very confused on the right step to use to setup a modified kernel in centOS6.
As a simple user, I've downloaded the latests sources (I'm runing an old kernel
version) :
rpm -i
http://vault.centos.org/6.7/updates/Source/SPackages/kernel-2.6.32-573.22.1.el6.src.rpm
in the spec file ~/rpmbuild/SPECS/kernel.spec I've set:
%define buildid .numa
Now I want to set

I Need to Build a Custom Kernel - missing step
Hi,
I was trying to build a custom kernel following the steps defined at
https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel. It seems to me that:
1. Step 4 should precede step 2
2. At the beginning of the current step two you should execute:
rpmbuild -bp kernel.spec (otherwise no kernel-related directory will
exist in `/rpmbuild/BUILD/).
