Blasphemous? any support for a REPO of current edition BIND, et al (e.g., BZ561299)?
...he-wall that it
is blasphemy to propose a REPO of current editions of certain very
important functions?
kind regards/ldv
A quote from a long term mentor now at Internet2:
"It's fundamentally wrong for RedHat to attempt to backport security patches
for such a fundamental service. I'd cuss a blue streak about this point, in
fact, except that I don't want to trigger the anti-cuss features at
Dr. Vaughn's place of employment."

Question about EXT3 error messages in /var/log/messages
...once 8 is subtracted
from is (so, 1 in this case), and that 2 is the SCSI Id of the offending
device in that channel.
So, I'm a little lost here. I figured the experts here could let me know
how to map the reported ID numbers to a physical disk or RAID device.
Thanks in advance!

Full replay logs of OpenSSH sessions
Hi all,
I am not 100% sure if this is a -dev or a -user topic, but I am
leaning towards the former. Feel free to cuss at me and tell me to ask
-user, instead.
I used to run a patchset that allowed full logs of everything taking
place via OpenSSH. This also allowed me to replay any session, live or
after the fact.
I am fully aware of the security implications of logging everything,
especially regarding passwords...

AGI perl script set timeout within script?
Hi All,
I'm running an AGI, calling a perl script the does number lookups to a
remote server. I would like to put a timeout in the script. The
problem I'm running into is if the DNS server is not responding, the
script hangs and waits for 30 seconds before returning to the Asterisk
dialplan. I would like a timeout of 1 second, then return.
Here is my clean script:

passwords and NIS+
Hello,
I'm new to samba. Trying to get it running on Solaris on Intel
using NIS+. I configured it with the --with-nisplus --with-nisplus-home
and --with-automount. I don't seem to be able to get authentication
to work.
I've created the smbpasswd file from my nis+ tables, set the perms
per the docs (encryption.txt to name one) and when I try to run
smbpasswd to set a password for

Prototype not processing javascript
I''m trying to change over from Rails 1.1.6 to 1.2.1 and have discovered
that either something is wrong with Prototype of else something has
changed that I am not aware of and cannot find documentation on. (I
just joined this group, so if this has already been cussed and
discussed here or in another list then please point me in the right
direction.)
I am trying to use the "replace_html" feature, and instead of prototype
processing the generated javascript, I get a big load of "try

rmdir() EBUSY warnings on 2.2.12
...) I'm not really
sure why using rmdir() for another directory than the Maildir specified
in mail_location is a good idea. I.e. given that Maildirs shouldn't ever
be emtpy (cur,new,tmp) anyway.

Asterisk SIP UUI Protocol
Hi,
I came thru ISDN UUI (User-User Information) protocol which is defined in
this RFC - http://www.ietf.org/id/draft-ietf-cuss-sip-uui-17.txt
But I don't understand how to use this with Asterisk. Any idea would be
much appreciated.
Thanks.
Gopal.

Performance tweak when local files are not served by mongrel
Hello Zed !
I''ve experimented a simple but limited performance tweak in the mongrel
rails loader.
With the following apache 2.2 mod proxy loadbalancer setup :
# Redirect all non-static requests to cluster
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ balancer://mongrel_cluster%{REQUEST_URI} [P,QSA,L]
We can assume that mongrel is called only when the

Broadening of ZFS open source license
In the article about MeeGo: http://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/387196/103bbafc9266fd0d/ it is stated, that Oracle (together with RedHat) contributes a bulk part of BTRFS development. Given that ZFS and BTRFS both share many similar goals, wouldn''t it be reasonable for Oracle to license ZFS under wider range of FOSS licenses (similar to how Mozilla released their code under triple license,

ATI VGA Passthrough / Xen 4.2 / Linux 3.8.6
Hi,
I''m trying to get VGA passthrough to work to an XP x64 guest, and I''m
seeing "interesting" things happening.
I''m using the kernel and userspace tools from here:
http://xen.crc.id.au/support/guides/install/#
on Scientific Linux 6.
I gave up on trying to get an Nvidia card to work in the guest having
read about the extra patches required to get a

Mdk 9.1, samba-LDAP 2.2.8a/3.0b3 (LDAP) can't print to z53
I've not been able to get Samba to print to a Lexmark Z53.
If I call it a Z52, the driver uploads (to where, I have no idea so I
can't check it) but I still can't get anything out of the printer.
