RODBC, IODBC and Mac OS X
Dear All,
As some of you in the archive, i am experiencing problems in using
RODBC with IODBC on Mac OS X Panther.
I am currrently facing two problems.
The first one is apparently linked with IODBC (according to returned R
error message) although testing the database access from IODBC manager
seems to work fine.
The second is by far more radical, R purely and simply reports an error
, blocks and I finally got a Mac OS X...

Ices2 - reencoding ogg?
Ok so I'm up and riding with Icecast2 and ices2, thanks for all of
you who pointed me in the right directon. I can stream fine without
reencoding but when I change the nominal-bitrate tag its not happy.
Comments in the xml file say:
<!-- Live encoding/reencoding:
Currrently, the parameters given here for encoding
MUST match the input data for channels and sample rate.
That restriction will be relaxed in the future. -->
Does that mean I can change the bitrate ? Eg I have a 256k file that
I am trying to reencode at 64k. Give me an error!

requesting assistance in samba-samba migration
I have inherited a Samba server and would like to migrate the
installation to a new machine. We are using Samba as a PDC and my
currrent worry is what users will see on their desktop (as well as
other changes?) once they log on to the new server.
As a test I have logged on with my laptop (running WinXP virtually) and
I get a completely blank desktop (with the exception of the trash can).
Will users lose anything? I am unclear on...

rsync 3.0.9 segmentation fault
Hi,
I am experiencing segfaults when transferring files via rsync though sudo.
Setup:
- Backupserver initiates the rsync command with --delete -vvv
--no-inc-recursive --numeric-ids --delete-excluded --relative
--rsync-path=/home/backupuser/rsync-wrapper.sh
- rsync-wrapper.sh (on the client) contains /usr/bin/sudo /usr/bin/rsync

- user "backupuser" has sudo access to the

Unresticted guest trunk network interface
Hi,
is there way to create a network interface for a guest that just
forwards packets tagged with a vlan id?
Currrently I have a guest that has configured 10+ interfaces and for
each one I add I have to create a new vlan interface and a bridge on the
host which makes things rather cumbersome.
What I'd like to have is just one interface eth0 in the guest and then
be able to create eth0.2, eth0.3 in the guest an...

SSL Certifcates
Hi anyone.
Can dovecot be configured to authenticate user using only SSL
Certificates only and not ask for a password.
So far I've got it taking the username from the common name of the
certificate but I like it to use the certificate in place of the password.
Is this possible and how?

Using multiple columns as primary key
Hi!
I''m trying to use a primary key made up of two columns in my model''s table.
But looking at the docs, it looks like ActiveRecord only supports using
one field as primary key.
Can anyone point me in a direction of this or verify that it''s not
supported?
Greetings,

Using HEAD version of Zaptel with Asterisk Stable Release
I need to try the CVS HEAD release of Zaptel on the stable Asterisk release.
I was wondering how to do this. I currently have a stable Asterisk running
on a Dell Server with Redhat Enterprise 3 Linux. I was wondering if anyone
can give me some pointers of how to do this using CVS. Should I rename the
current Zaptel source directory and download the latest HEAD version? Or is
there a better way to

I can hazard a guess; I'll bet all your win95 clients have not had
all the MS updates (TCP/IP, network redirector, etc). Maybe some
are even win95a (pre-OSR/2). You should probably apply all the
currrent updates for OSR/2 networking stuff, and then apply the
same reg tweaks (TCP/IP stuff - MaxMTU, RWIN, etc) to all the
clients. Then you *may* get the same behavior...
For update info, links, etc, see:

bug in extractAIC.survreg (PR#6910)
Full_Name: Dave Ramsey
Version: 1.8.0
OS: win2000
Submission from: (NULL) (202.27.240.6)
there is a bug in extractAIC.survreg in library MASS.
A survreg model object has no component called "residuals". Hence
n <- length(fit$residuals)
returns 0 resulting in errors
workaround: replace
n <- length(fit$residuals)
with
n <- length(residuals(fit))

R mailing list archive: alternative interface
For a programming competition (http://railsday.com) I recently
entered, I created a web-application to nicely display mail archives.
I've loaded up a couple of months worth of r-devel mail and made it
available here: http://listomagic.had.co.nz/
The big advantages over the currrent mailman archive are:
* messages are threaded, and messages in a thread are displayed
together, and some effort is made to reduce redundant quoting
* built in search
* rss feeds for author, thread and search
I'd very interested to know if you think this useful and if it'd be
worthwhil...

Feature request: put NewEnvironment and R_NewhashedEnv into API
Hi,
I would like to be able to create new environments from package C
code. AFAICT, this isn't allowed since both NewEnvironment and
R_NewHashedEnv are declared in Defn.R.
If exposing this isn't controvertial, I would submit a patch.
However, I'm not sure where the declarations should go (Rdefines.h?)
and whether they need to change to Rf_*.

Minor flaw in Caldera OpenLinux 1.2
(I almost didn''t post this cause I hope you would notice it immediately
after installing the OS... It''s here for the people that don''t/won''t use
Caldera OpenLinux 1.2 )
Hello to all!
By default, Caldera OpenLinux 1.2 adds the currrent working directory to
the end of the $PATH on login. This of course gives a normal user the
possibility of gaining a root shell by tricking root into running a shell
script in his/her home directory or other publicly writable directory.
I asked Caldera about it and they dismissed it as a not being...

interrupting R from a GUI
list(...),
I am looking for a way to interrupt R from a callback: specifically,
to interrupt plotting (typically on a cairoDevice, but would be good
if it worked with other devices too). Of course, one can interrupt R
nicely from the console with Ctrl-C (or Esc in Rgui), but I need to do
it from a GUI. Callbacks run in a new thread, so obviously stop() etc
will not work. I tried to look into how
