Samba 3 and cupsaddsmb
I can't even get cupsaddsmb to work right. I followed the configuration instructions from the documentation, and my smb.conf matches what the cupsaddsmb man page says. I am getting extremely frustrated with this and not being able to allow clients to download drivers from Samba. With cupsaddsmb, this is the error I am rece...

CUPS removal of cupsaddsmb
Hi All, I was recently directed to look at some upstream CUPS changes which impact Samba's printer server functionality: cupsaddsmb has been dropped via https://github.com/apple/cups/commit/f1def5b85f51120f5dc1eb21e1f38860ef41be9c Given that it's only just gone in, I wouldn't expect it to reach distros for some time, but I think it's worth discussing how/whether we should react. AFAICT cupsaddsmb walks the cupsGetD...

problems with cupsaddsmb
Hi! I'm using Suse 9.0 with cups 1.1.19 and Samba 3.0. I'm trying to share my printer on the network. Testparm runs without errors and I can see my printer in the network neighborhood. So the smb.conf should be fine. But when I try to install the driver with cupsaddsmb I get the following error. zwobot:/usr/sbin # ./cupsaddsmb -U root -a -v Password for root required to access localhost via SAMBA: Running command: smbclient //localhost/print\$ -N -U'root%root' -c 'mkdir W32X86;put /var/spool/cups/tmp/3fb011ea4aec0 W32X86/stylusphoto750.PPD;put /usr/s...

cupsaddsmb - why the heck can't I get rpcclient-addprinter to work?
...he NT drivers are added correctly but the addprinter command says it's unsuccessful! rpcclient localhost -N -U JOHNSON\\root -c 'enumprinters' shows the printer!! What's going on? I've tried removing /var/cache/samba/ntdrivers.tdb /var/cache/samba/ntprinters.tdb and reissuing cupsaddsmb -v -U root -a but I still get the addprinter error! I also get a list of printers when I do a rpcclient-enumprinters after I delete the two tdb files If I then redo cupsaddsmb and click on the printer share from a windows client it installs a driver ... but with the defprtr2.ppd (not the HP750C.pp...

Windows 7 64-bit drivers / cupsaddsmb
...and 32-bit clients. I've setup a new samba server on a separate domain to prepare and test for this transition. I've gotten everything to work so far except for printing, and I'm at a loss on how to proceed. It appears to me as if adding the printer drivers in the usual way, via cupsaddsmb will not work for the 64-bit clients (see http://www.cups.org/articles.php?L376 and http://www.cups.org/str.php?L2566). I've searched for a solution, and asked on IRC. My goal is to be able to print with 64-bit Windows 7 to a samba/cups server, with automatic printer driver download. If...

cupsaddsmb -v, Warning: PPD file not found?!
...all, I am running a Debian testing/unstable system with samba 2.2.3a-6 and cupsys 1.1.15-4 as a member server in a samba domain. I have used CUPS to add a networked HP8100N printer and it works fine locally, but I'm having difficulty adding it to samba for Win98 domain clients to use. I ran cupsaddsmb to add the printer and drivers to samba, but it cannot find the PPD file... where is it looking for this to be??? root@WS-072:/etc/samba/drivers# cupsaddsmb -a Warning: No PPD file for printer "HP8100N"! root@WS-072:/etc/samba/drivers# cupsaddsmb -v HP8100N Warning: No PPD file for print...

adding a printer to samba via cupsaddsmb
I'm trying to add a printer to Samba 2.2.4, using the cupsaddsmb tool provided with CUPS. cupsaddsmb basically invokes samba's rpcclient program.. The driver part installs fine using cupsaddsmb, but addprinter always fails for some reason. This is what cupsaddsmb returns, does anybody have any idea as to what is wrong?? If I invoke rpcclient manually with...

Cupsaddsmb fails
Hi All, I have Samba 3.0.22-1ubuntu4 running on Ubuntu 6.01 (eft) and am trying to add printers using cupsaddsmb. On running it I get the following: root@pykota:/home/printeradmin# cupsaddsmb -U root -a -v Password for root required to access /var/run/cups/cups.sock via SAMBA: Running command: smbclient ///var/run/cups/cups.sock/print$ -N -A /var/spool/cups/tmp/454b654e20cfa -c 'mkdir W32X86;put /var/sp...

cupsaddsmb problem
...ers 10.2-0.11 gimpprint-cups 2-1.1.23-11 foomatic 3.0.2-1 The server is bound to an NT4 based domain (to be replaced with Linux/Samba in the summer) and winbind works fine with wbinfo -u and -g returning a full list of users and groups. Cups works fine printing from Linux clients but when I run cupsaddsmb to deliver the drivers to the XP client machines it fails to copy the files to the named folder. Running the command gives the output below: [root@ourschool printers]# cupsaddsmb -U jpb -h localhost HPLaserJet5L Password for jpb required to access localhost via SAMBA: [root@ourschool printers]...

Automating cupsaddsmb or some alternative
...rver for a client, and I need to make the ability to add and configure print servers as simple as possible. So far, cups and samba are top notch, but there are two problems I have. One, I need to restart the samba service every time I add a printer. Two, I need to log in via console or SSH to run cupsaddsmb, and I need to then authenticate. I was wondering if there was a way that I could streamline this a bit so they'd never have to do any of that. Also, not killing samba would be nice, as there will be up to 200 people per print server. Thanks! /\/\/\/\/\/\ Nothing is foolproof to a talent...

cupsaddsmb encounter with good info supplied (Plain text)
Sorry, Should have used plain text to begin with and better wrapping: Hi People, Trying to be as informative as possible: I'm trying to add printers drivers to cups-owned, samba shared printer. Called "PDF-Creator" But when I issue the command "cupsaddsmb -U root -v PDF-Creator" I get a "NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE" Weird thing is: I was able to do this a few months ago. But I noticed the drivers where missing when I wanted to add this printer to one of my windows workstations. So I thought: Well let's just run the good-ol cupsadds...

cupsaddsmb and samba

strange anomaly/bug with cupsaddsmb and 64bit drivers
This is probably a CUPS bug but maybe not, I'll mention it here just in case. When using cupsaddsmb to install 64bit drivers the drivers must be in the (maybe distro/configure dependent): /usr/share/cups/drivers/x64 to be sure that's "x64" with a lower case "x". The cupsaddsmb app ignores the drivers if the subdirectory is named with an uppercase "X" (X64). Now...

Got cupsaddsmb working but the client PC download of the printer drivers fails for 3 out 4 PCs tested so far!
I have built a new CUPS print server on Ubuntu 8.04 server for our office (used apt-get to download the CUPS v 1.3.7 and Samba v3.0.28a packages) as a replacement for our existing Suse CUPS print server and I want to use the cupsaddsmb tool to set up printer drivers for download by PCs rather than using the Add Printer Wizard method which we have used on our older CUPS print server. After some research I eventually got cupsaddsmb to work. Now we are testing the new CUPS print server. So far we have tested it using 4 Windows X...
