Is SUNWhd for Thumper only?
I read Ben Rockwood''s blog post about Thumpers and SMART (http://cuddletech.com/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=993). Will the SUNWhd package only work on a Thumper? Can I use this on my snv_101 system with AMD 64 bit processor and nVidia SATA?

ARCSTAT Kstat Definitions
Would someone "in the know" be willing to write up (preferably blog) definitive definitions/explanations of all the arcstats provided via kstat? I''m struggling with proper interpretation of certain values, namely "p", "memory_throttle_count", and the mru/mfu+ghost hit vs demand/prefetch hit counters. I think I''ve got it figured out, but

[LLVMdev] [cfe-dev] Do you use UML utility programs?
...e: > Oh I see. Thank you. I will study that. You will want to use the pid provider. The most basic thing you can probably do is to turn on flowindent and just trace `pid$target:::entry' and `pid$target:::return`, which will trace all the function calls and returns. This blog post <http://cuddletech.com/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=923> gives an example of the script I'm thinking of (this is one of the most basic DTrace scripts). Also, you may want to compile at -O0, because DTrace can't instrument functions that have been inlined. -- Sean Silva

ZFS utility like Filefrag on linux to help analyzing the extents mapping
Hello All, I''d like to know if there is an utility like `Filefrag'' shipped with e2fsprogs on linux, which is used to fetch the extents mapping info of a file(especially a sparse file) located on ZFS? I am working on efficient sparse file detection and backup through lseek(SEEK_DATA/SEEK_HOLE) on ZFS, and I need to verify the result by comparing the original sparse file and

Cross Platform Mixers and LibAO
...At the moment I'm just using an OSS mixer, but am ready to re-write the mixer code. Is it possibly that at some point in the future libao might include mixer functions? CentOS and Dell MD3200i / MD3220i iSCSI w/ multipath
...g from a GUI management utility (MDSM) which would be at best problematic to run in a server environment. The other question is: is multipathing typical of iSCSI configuation? Little of the iSCSI docs I've found discusses multipath configurations at all: http://www.open-iscsi.org/ http://www.cuddletech.com/articles/iscsi/index.html (good but very dated) http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/rhel-centos-fedora-linux-iscsi-howto.html (no mention of multipathing) 4: Dell suggests a shutdown procedure including a flush of multipathing paths ("multipath -F" -- in the "Owner's Manual")...

ZFS
So, I''ve read the wikipedia, and have done a lot of research on google about it, but it just doesn''t make sense to me. Correct me if I''m wrong, but you can take a simple 5/10/20 GB drive or whatever size, and turn it into exabytes of storage space? If that is not true, please explain the importance of this other than the self heal and those other features. Thank you

Monitoring filessytem access
When somebody is hammering on the system, I want to be able to detect who''s doing it, and hopefully even what they''re doing. I can''t seem to find any way to do that. Any suggestions? Everything I can find ... iostat, nfsstat, etc ... AFAIK, just show me performance statistics and so forth. I''m looking for something more granular. Either *who* the

Help with Installation on OpenSolaris (TextDrive Containers)
Gents, I installed ferret successfully in my MacOS (rails development) using the gem install. I did some tests and everything worked fine. Then I tried to install it on the same way on my production environment at TextDrive? running OpenSolaris? (container). This time ''gem install ferret'' seems to be completed: [92140-AA:~/web/labs/blogblogs/trunk] root# gem install ferret

is zpool export/import | faster than rsync or cp
I need to move data from one zpool to another, lock stock and barrel, Being from linux background my instinct was to use rsync. But then I remembered seeing the `export/import options in man zpool.. And I''ve seen mention of them here too, but didn''t pay attention since I''d noticed no need yet. Now I''m wondering if the export/import sub commands might not be

System started crashing hard after zpool reconfigure and OI upgrade
I have two identical Supermicro boxes with 32GB ram. Hardware details at the end of the message. They were running OI 151.a.5 for months. The zpool configuration was one storage zpool with 3 vdevs of 8 disks in RAIDZ2. The OI installation is absolutely clean. Just next-next-next until done. All I do is configure the network after install. I don''t install or enable any other services.

Monitoring ZFS host memory use
Hi, Please forgive me if my searching-fu has failed me in this case, but I''ve been unable to find any information on how people are going about monitoring and alerting regarding memory usage on Solaris hosts using ZFS. The problem is not that the ZFS ARC is using up the memory, but that the script Nagios is using to check memory usage simply sees, say 96% RAM used, and alerts. The

MySQL THD via PID Provider
I want to go a lot deeper with my tracing of MySQL and to do so I want to look into MySQL Thread Descriptors (class THD). Inside is a great bulk of information utilized by a great many of the core functions within MySQL... I really want to get in there. So far I''ve had no luck though. It''s a C++ class, and I''m afraid that I''m approaching it like a C struct,

Adding a mirror to an existing single disk zpool
Hello All, I''m transitioning data off my old UFS partitions onto ZFS. I don''t have a lot of duplicate space so I created a zpool, rsync''ed the data from UFS to the ZFS mount and then repartitioned the UFS drive to have partitions that match the cylinder count of the ZFS. The idea here is that once the data is over I wipe out UFS and then attach that partition to the
