drbd strategy
I have an existing in-production LAMP server running Centos 5.1. It uses physical partitions on top of hardware RAID1, having / /home /var and /boot on separate partitions. We have a near-identical system I am thinking of bringing in as a DRBD/Heartbeat companion. One solution may be to use csync2 [http://oss.linbit.com/csync2/] on /etc and /usr/local (the only areas that will differ from the stock CentOS). Then setup DRBD for /home and /var. From reading the docs it seems we have to use "external meta data" on the existing partitions. Other than that, anyone have any caveats o...

The problem with setting up AD domain to Samba 4
...ain controller AD (PDC and BDC) by Samba 4 on Debian Wheezy. I took a configuration from examples. After setting the PDC I configured a second controller(BDC) and connected it to the domain. On PDC server has created a network folder for portable user profiles and synchronized it to the BDC through csync2 . My problem that the PDC and the BDC on the same user names has different UID and users can not access their network profile on the BDC. Please help deal with the problem! P.S. Sorry for my English! <http://vaf.net.ru>

rsync many small files
At our lab we have storage with many small files. For example a directory can contain over 15,000 files and each file averages about 75k. I would like to sync this to another filesystem on a different server but I am not sure if there is a rsync tuning flag I can use for such a intensive job. I am using rsync 3.0.3. Also, I would like to use little memory as possible. Any thoughts? TIA

Rsync in daemon mode
Hi, I am a newbie to Rysnc and a had a quick question, the answer for which I wasn't able to find in the documentations. Currently I have Solaris system A which has files that are being generated and changed in real time. I am running rysnc in daemon mode on A.(server) On system B I use the appropriate rysnc command to connect to system A and sync all the files on B. I am having

Bidirectional rsync with "trash" support
Hello everybody, I was thinking about a special script to be done with rsync, when I realized my needs might have been common enough to have already been fulfilled by somebody else through a script or by some backup software. I have a folder I share between two computers of mine, A and B. What i want is to be able to keep it in full sync. If a file is added in A, it should be added to B when

Best practices to switch from BIND to NSD
Hi, I'm a sys admin and currently working for a french hosting company. We provide DNS services to our customers and at the moment we are using BIND on Debian servers. BIND is a good software but we don't need a recursing DNS for our public DNS, and we needed better security than what BIND provides. So I made the suggestion to replace BIND by another DNS software. NSD appears to be the

Keeping domU configs sync''ed across nodes in a cluster
Hi all, I''ve got a Fedora 13 cluster (just two nodes) with Xen 4.0.1 and the dom0''s are 2.6.32 kernel. I can live migrate the domU VMs back and forth just fine. The trick is that, until a VM has been migrated to the second node (or I run ''virsh dumpxml domain > domain.xml; <copy to other node>; virsh define domain.xml), the second node doesn''t

Bi-directional sync for Sysvol folder -- Osync?
Just some notes: For master <-> master setup (bi-directional sync) you need AFAIK a cluster filesystem. I have no idea how far this is supported w/ samab (ACLs, ...) Maybe a old tool related to drbd might be worth some testing too: http://oss.linbit.com/csync2/ Klaus ________________________________________ Von: samba-bounces at lists.samba.org [samba-bounces at lists.samba.org]" im Auftrag von "Daniel Carrasco Mar?n [danielmadrid19 at gmail.com] Gesendet: Donnerstag, 25. Bi-directional sync for Sysvol folder -- Osync?
Hi, I was thinking about bidirectional sync of sysvol and i've a question: ?What about DRBD?. You can create a disk partition in every node, create a DRBD cluster and then mount that partition on sysvol folder. The sincronization is bidirectional and in real time. For now i've not tested this option, but i've plans to start some tests. What is your opinion about this? Greetings!!

High Number of VMs
Hi, I''m curious about how you guys deal with big virtualization installations. To this date we only dealt with a small number of VM''s (~10)on not too big hardware (2xquad xeons+16GB ram). As I''m the "storage guy" I find it quite convenient to present to the dom0s one LUN per VM that makes live migration possible but without the cluster file system or cLVM
