ControlPath versus ProxyCommand
...that may not be feasible yet. But I
saw that option arrive and intend to make us of it. Nice! I discovered -G too
recently, very useful to me. Not least for autorestarting persistent tunnels
when I modify a config file (I use the output as a signature string).

OpenSSH socket forwarding in ssh_config file?
The ssh command line's -L option has supported socket forwarding for a
while, but as far as I can tell the ssh_config file does not, even in
7.9.
Is this planned? Or is there some reason this isn't reasonable? Oris
there some syntax I've missed?

OpenSSH socket forwarding in ssh_config file?
...ll my efforts with UNIX socket
file paths have met with failure in the ssh config file, and the
ssh_config(5) manual entry doesn't mention them.
UNIX domain sockets have the advantage that one can apply UNIX
permissions to them, a boon on a shared machine.

[Bridge] ebtables target to disable an interface
I would like to set up an ACL for an ethernet port using ebtables rules, and
if a security violation occurs, to physically disable the port (i.e.
whatever "ifconfig down" does). I did not see such a feature in the
ebtables man page. Does this exist anywhere, or do I have to create a new
extension for it?

ControlPath versus ProxyCommand
...sane use case for using
ControlMaster/ControlPath at all if there is a ProxyCommand? I would have
thought not.
Can someone explain a use case for this precedence (ControlPath before
ProxyCommand), or is this a misfeature which would benefit from a fix/change?
Thanks,

--exclude=/ seems not to work as I want
...top directory, thus making no
changes of any kind to the target (yes, I know -n will do that too:-)
Any thoughts? I would have hoped the first (the no-op) would do,
and feel that maybe it should at least elicit an error message.

BUG REPORT: latest rsync misinvokes ssh with user@host ...
...that rsync shouldn't parse the
"[user@]host:" prefix at all (other than detecting it), and should not
break it into "-l user" and "host".
Can someone elucidate the reasoning behind this change?

need good wrapper
I'm having trouble with the rsync wrapper's I've found online:
rsync_wrapper[8458]: SSH_ORIGINAL_COMMAND environment variable
apparently not set
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(189)
I'm not sure if this is a problem of incompatibility between my RHES3
and the wrappers I've found or

why does rsync translate user@host into '$RSYNC_RSH -l user host'?
...oot newhost rsync .....
Since sshto is my own tool I can probably have it cope with this
mangling of my target string into "-l foo bah", and undo it.
But WHY does rsync believe this is desirable, or even necessary?
