Function for trim blanks from a string(s)?
I feel like an idiot posting this because every language I've ever seen has a
string function that trims blanks off strings (off the front or back or
both). Ideally, it would process whole data frames/matrices etc but I don't
even see one that processes a single string. But I've searched and I don't
even see that. There's a strtrim function but it does something completely

Row name of empty string issue
I have a data.frame with rownames taken from a database. Unfortunately, one
of the rownames (automatically obtained from the DB) is an empty string. I
often do computations on the DB s.t. the answers (rows) are indexed with
respect to the rownames so a computation on a DB record might necessitate
the indexing into the data.frame by the emtpy row name. Unfortunately, that
doesn't seem to

Can't install RSPERL under windows
I know that I'm a fool for trying to get this working under windows but I'm
obliged. Note I have R 2.6.1 and the latest cygwin. I'm running winxp sp2.
1) If I issue: R CMD INSTALL RSPerl_0.92-1.tar.gz, it fails as such
