Samba and XP hassles
...ult to configure.
Heard that XP was written not to work with Linux (Samba) and have become somewhat convinced through my experiences. Is this the truth? And is there a way around it?
I have applied the following XP registry patch to the machines:
<http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/connect/csamba5.html>
The name of the workgroup differs from the domain.
Machine and user accounts have been made on the Linux box.
I have smbpasswd root.
Encrypted passwords are enabled.
The only hassle now is with the domain controller. Which is the most
essential part. The errors flag up on the XP ma...

pam_mkhomedir.so and Samba question (was: RE: Script question)
...also this one, which has been around for quite a while, and
probably needs to be updated .... especially since Mandrake 9.0 has
winbind support in install ... including setting up pam_mkhomedir,
setting samba for 'obey pam restrictions' etc.

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED - Samba on Mandrake 8.2
I am attempting to integrate a Linux Samba Server with an NT 4.0 PDC.
Ideally I am looking to authenticate the users on the PDC, and then
permit access to the Samba Shares on the Linux Box. I have several
issues, but the one which is presenting itself currently is when I
attempt to Browse the PDC using smbclient. I get the following:
smbclient -L dumbo
added interface ip=192.168.0.11

Use windbind to keep same passwords between NT4 DOM and linux email?
Hello--
I'm working my way through setting up an email server for faculty and staff
use at the school my wife teaches at, and while not a Linux whiz, am making
good progress so far. The school has a NT 4 server which is used for domain
authentication, and I am trying to grapple with whether I can achieve the
"holly grail" of synchronized passwords between the email server on Linux

Winbind help
Hi. I'm not subscribed to the list, so if you can help, please e-mail me
or CC me in the response.
I've been using Samba for quite a while, and just set up a 2.2.2 server
with winbind support. Console logins and SMB access work fine, wbinfo -t
reports "Secret is good", and wbinfo -r domain+ntuser shows the right
group number. In fact, the UID/GIDs are translated properly when

win/linux connect problem
hi..
I have samba 2.2.1a on Mandrake 8.1, 2.4.17. My problem is a user from remote Win2k workstation can't see my shares when he wants to access my PC using my hostname. When accessing using my ip address, it works.. The error message in W2K is 'This user is not authorized to log in from this station' - or something like that..
Here's a part of my config. The same (or almost

Problem with Winbind
Hi everyone,
I am having a difficult time with winbindd in order to connect to my shared
directories on my HP-UX box. I am running samba 2.2.3a on HP-UX 11, and
here is what's happenning:
I can start winbindd (I'm using -i -d 3 to monitor it), and using wbinfo -u
I can list the domain users. I have joined the domain using smbpasswd -r
PDC -j DOMAIN -U admin%password, I get the reply

Unofficial Samba+ACL howto
Hi all,
As promised, I have started a howto document on setting up Samba with NT ACL
support, based on experiences in my workplace, as documentation for this
seems to be on the short side at the moment.
It is available at the following address:
http://www.bluelightning.org/linux/samba_acl_howto
I have yet to convert it to proper DocBook format, and it needs more material
