Fwd: [Cryptography] Why aren’t we using SSH for everything?

samba4.1.2: Allow cryptography algorithms compatible with Windows NT 4.0
...re View without being able to join windows7 client to samba4 domain, we stumbled on the following article: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1028164 which says, should we run MS Windows 2008R2 AD, we should enable the "Allow cryptography algorithms compatible with Windows NT 4.0" registry key. Am I correct to suppose a samba-4.1.2 PDC emulates a Windows 2008R2 (as long as cryptography is involved)? Is there a way (if any) to downgrade the cryptography requirements of a samba-4.1.2 domain to meet the "Allow cryptography...

discussion about keystroke timing attacks against SSH on the cryptography ML
Hi folks. FYI: There's a discussion[0] about keystroke timing attacks against SSH going on on the cryptography mailing list. Would be interesting to hear the opinion of some OpenSSH folks what SSH/OpenSSH is doing against this and what could maybe be don in addition. Especially since the main idea behind the attack is obviously not limited to the initial authentication phase when a password is entered and...

RHEL 7.3 wish-list
CentOS tracks RHEL and there is something I think probably can only be done in a point release but I believe should be done. Update to nss and curl. The problem - the version of curl that ships with CentOS does not support ECC cryptography. A newer version would, but requires manual specification of the ciphers if the TLS/SSL library used (NSS on RHEL/Fedora) does not have the ECC ciphers enabled by default, and the NSS in RHEL/CentOS 7 does not. This causes a problem when using CentOS 7 for something like a CDN that needs to pu...

definite data corruption in 2.5.0 with -z option
I just confirmed that data corruption can occasionally occur with rsync 2.5.0 when the -z option is used. My command was the following: rsync -vaz --partial --block-size=65536 --checksum remote:/path/ /localdir The files consisted of a year's worth of email (262MB), broken into one file for each day. At least this doesn't seem to occur silently; I get the message "ERROR: file

Cryptography patents (was: openssl lib question.)
...on one of the many official OpenSSL lists: http://www.openssl.org/support/ You could also take a quick look around on Google for pointers. It didn't take me a whole lot of searching to happen upon http://www.rsasecurity.com/rsalabs/faq/ which has a good section on the key patents affecting cryptography, or http://www.mail-archive.com/openssl-users at openssl.org/msg01425.html which is a posting to one of the OpenSSL lists regarding patents on cryptographic algorithms. Hope this helps, and Happy New Year if you choose the Gregorian calendar! Rip Loomis Voice Number: (410) 953-6874 -----------...
