Trying to figure out why my Cruzer Micro 512"MB" won't boot.
Office Depot ran a deal with a Cruzer Micro 512MB (actually, around
488MiB) for about $20 after a rebate I may not see for months. I saw
the ad yesterday and stopped by pretty well first thing this afternoon
to snatch one up while they were still there since I've been having to
make do with two 256MB drives to hold all the data I...

Syslinux of a USB flash ram
Folks,
When I run syslinux on my Sandisk Cruzer (512MB) USB flash RAM with the "syslinux /dev/sda" , it corrupts the partition table that I had already created on my USB device. It attempts to boot but eventually fails trying to load the kernel. If I try "syslinux /dev/sda1", the USB device fail to boot at all. I would think...

SanDisk Flash Drive error
Hi all- I'm trying to use a SanDisk Cruzer Micro flash drive (usb,
512MB). It has CruzerLock version 2.0 Security software in it. When
I plug it in, it is recognized OK. When I open the drive, I have a
file to open: CruzerLock2.exe. It has the Wine icon. But when I
click on it, I get:

Syslinux on USB not seeing any files
...nor I'm able to
boot anything. The only message I get on screen (apart from boot:) is
"Could not find kernel image: linux".
The configuration (and kernels) are in syslinux directory, but even
moving them to root (or naming one of them linux) doesn't help. The
pendrive is SanDisk Cruzer Contour 16GB, FAT32 formatted with
mkdiskimage.
One board where this happens is Gigabyte GA-8ST800 (both with BIOS
versions F3 and F4).
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

I have performed the above test, both with my 8GB Patroit XT and also with
one of my 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Blades. (I can't remember having reporting
any booting problems with the 8GB Patroit XT so far, which is why I decided
to do the test also with one of the 2GB Sandisk Cruzer Blades, because I
*have* reported problems with those.)
The results were the same in both cases.
In both cases, LessL...

HP Drive Key Boot Utility works (2.10?), but syslinux 3.71 doesn't

decided to make the break from windows, and I'm trying to learn
something along the way.
So, I have a Dell Vostro 200, Core 2 Duo, shipped with no OS. I decided
to try the Live USB approach to get started. The first step, of course,
is to make the USB stick bootable. I have a sandisk cruzer micro 8gb,
and also a dane-elec 1gb.
Please note: right now, I'm not even trying to load up an OS - I'm just
trying to make the stick bootable in some way.
I have a winXP box, which I'm trying to use to set everything up. So I
downloaded syslinux 3.71, and ran the win32 versio...

Boot 32GB Multi-partition Flash as USB-ZIP
I have a Pentium 4 machine that does not boot from my 32GB SanDisk
Cruzer. Its first partition is 24GB and FAT32, to serve as
cross-platform storage. There is a second partition of 7GB in EXT2
which is bootable and contains a Linux system armed with syslinux
(extlinux). This works fine booting off of recent laptops and desktops
alike.
This particular desktop has in its...

Linux on a USB Drive
Hi,
I saw a post you made on a forum quite some time ago
about booting linux off a USB drive with compatible
bios via ISOlinux. I'm currently trying to do the
same thing and keep running into problems with my
initrd. This is probably caused by the fact that I
don't really know what I'm doing! I was wondering if
you found any useful info on the net you could point

"Boot error" on USB drive on some systems
I searched the mailing list and tried to find an answer, but didn't
see anything.
I have a Sandisk U3 Cruzer Micro 4.0GB flash drive. I have removed
the U3 software via the uninstall utility on the U3 website.
The USB flash drive is on /dev/sdc
I have tried this with syslinux 3.11 (from Ubuntu 7.04) and syslinux
3.36 (from Ubuntu Gutsy).
I fdisked the drive and created a 750MB FAT16 partition (type 0x...
