...to 6.8 recently, after about 4 hours of use, my system seems to run "hot". I don't think its the man power until but maybe the graphics card? I found references to odd/high power consumption with radeons an particular kernel/radeon versions. I have been successfully been using R on my EEE PC for some while now. Although it uses Xandros I have been able to install various pieces of software by pretending that it was Debian etch. Johannes was kind enough to continue providing binaries on CRAN for a while but I think I am the only person still living in the past as CRAN etch is currently stuck at 2.11.0 and I cannot rely on him to

...ags and rjags, I did (as superuser) apt-get remove --purge r-base-core apt-get autoremove then reinstalled R, then rjags (the Michael Rutter PPA is in my sources list), i.e., apt-get install r-base-dev apt-get install rjags (I used the dev to make sure I got some of the tools etc.) No joy. On crunchbang stattler linux (under VirtualBox), things loaded fine. I haven't tried actual computations though. (This is a debian squeeze variant.) Suggestions welcome, especially about the fprec symbol above. I am planning to upgrade the 10.04 to something else soon, probably Mint Mate, but wanted to wait...
