Bug#404530: python modules not installed using python policy; .pyc cruft as result
Package: xen-utils-3.0.3-1 Version: 3.0.3-0-2 Severity: normal Since this package installs python modules in /usr/lib/xen-3.0.3-1/lib/python/, and uses them directly from there, not following the python policy, once xend has started up, lots of .pyc files are created there, which will not be removed if the package is purged. These pyc files may also cause problem for future python upgrades, I

wine/RosettaStone breakage from recent kernel commit
Hi, I've been running the foreign language training program The Rosetta Stone(TRS) on wine for months now, but a recent commit to the linux kernel has caused TRS to be unable to read the DVD drive, where the program's data files are kept. Strangely, winefile can still read the data DVD, but TRS cannot, and I'm stumped. Below is the guilty kernel commit (rather long, sorry). Can

filtering out LIST cruft?
In planning our migration, I've noticed that lots of users have bits of lint in their ~/mail and/or ~/Mail. For example-- for an mbox called "blah" we may see: blah blah.msf (from Thunderbird) .blah.summary (from... I'm not sure, dtmail maybe) .blah_SIMS_index0003 (from our old IMAP server). When the user goes to

RHN Up2date Cruft: can I dump it?
Got part 1 - xx of back up working, so figured it's a good time to look for stuff to jettison... casually of course. Like paperwork, documentation, ... it's low on the priority list with GB so cheap these days. Anyway, 42M in /var/spool/up2date. Headers and such. I use only yum after my first month or so of CentOS. Can I dump that and similar non- config stuff? Or does it have some

Easy way to strip down CentOS?
Ok, I understand, now. I just leave multiple desktops in place and switch between them as I want. But perhaps you have reasons to do it as you do. That is one thing I really appreciate about Linux, the fact that there are many, many ways to accomplish almost everything and that what is right and works for me may not be what works best for you. Your scripting style is irrelevant so long as it

Broken OS after upgrade
Hi, I have broken my OS (FreeBSD) after upgrade, making me unable to compile dovecot the usual way so I am seeking a 3rd eye. The config.log is at : http://bit.ly/2jE5djl Hoping someone can help me figure out what is broken. During configure, it fails with: checking for special C compiler options needed for large files... no checking for _FILE_OFFSET_BITS value needed for large files...

Migrate mail data from Dovecot to Dovecot
I have built a new server (FreeBSD-12) running dovecot-2.3.4. My old server (FreeBSD-9.3) is running dovecot-2.3.4 as well. The configurations are 1:1 identical. The are about 250 users on this server, all virtual. They are mostly POP3 users, but they do "leave a copy of message on the server" for set various number of days. Now, to migrate the mail data, can I simply rsync the mail
