Easy way to strip down CentOS?
...o working on that same workstation, for example
developing websites on a local LAMP stack, using multimedia apps like
Audacity to edit some audio tracks for my training courses, etc.
When switching from one desktop environment to another for the sake of
trying it out, there's always tons of cruft on the system, even after a
yum groupremove "Old Desktop Environment". And I don't want to do a
fresh reinstallation, because I have all my data and files in place, and
this is a RAID 1 installation, so it's not exactly trivial to reinstall
and put everything back in place.

Bug#404530: python modules not installed using python policy; .pyc cruft as result
Package: xen-utils-3.0.3-1
Version: 3.0.3-0-2
Severity: normal
Since this package installs python modules in
/usr/lib/xen-3.0.3-1/lib/python/, and uses them directly from there,
not following the python policy, once xend has started up, lots of .pyc
files are created there, which will not be removed if the package is
purged.
These pyc files may also cause problem for future python upgrades, I

filtering out LIST cruft?
In planning our migration, I've noticed that lots of users have
bits of lint in their ~/mail and/or ~/Mail.
For example-- for an mbox called "blah" we may see:
blah
blah.msf (from Thunderbird)
.blah.summary (from... I'm not sure, dtmail maybe)
.blah_SIMS_index0003 (from our old IMAP server).
When the user goes to

RHN Up2date Cruft: can I dump it?
Got part 1 - xx of back up working, so figured it's a good time to look
for stuff to jettison... casually of course. Like paperwork,
documentation, ... it's low on the priority list with GB so cheap these
days.
Anyway, 42M in /var/spool/up2date. Headers and such. I use only yum
after my first month or so of CentOS. Can I dump that and similar non-
config stuff?
Or does it have some

By "random cruft" you're referring to the current lib/Debugger things
intermixed with the instructions?

...gt; ubyte?
No, its 63. Signed bit takes up one bit and "continue bit" takes up
another so signed values 0-63 get the first byte and 64-127 get the
second, etc.
This has to do with sbyte and ubyte because "char" type gets translated
to them.

Migrate mail data from Dovecot to Dovecot
...r set various number of days.
Now, to migrate the mail data, can I simply rsync the mail directories
between the old and the new server? Would that create a pitfall??
What is the recommended method?
