Multiple regression
Hi,
I am trying to do multiple regression on a set of data using backward stepwise regression....however backward stepwise regression is critised for overfitting data. To actually observe the bias and to come up with a better method to use..Could you all stats experts kindly give me pointers to any alternative procedure (or references) to use over backward stepwise regression from your

VoIP Phone Recommendations
I'm fairly new to VoIP, and brand-new to Asterisk. I am wondering what are the best/least expensive phones or phone adapters to use with Asterisk, both wired and WiFi. I would appreciate any insight or recommendations you may have.
Thanks,

[OT] propensity score implementation
...probability of
an individual assigned to the treatment group such that Prob(Y = 1) _|_
Prob(T = 1|X), we should model the outcome as
Prob(Y = 1|Z) = exp(B * Z) / [1 + exp(B * Z)] weighting or matching by
Prob(T=1|X)
The above is just my general understanding about propensity score. However,
I was critisized that my understanding is wrong and was also told that the
response variable should be Y instead of T in the propensity model at the
1st stage. I am very confused and like to have the opinion of experts like
you guys.
Any insight will be appreciated.
Have a nice weekend!

Composite Primary Keys 0.3.2
ActiveRecords with composite primary keys now seem to happily support
find/create/update/destroy options.
Url: http://compositekeys.rubyforge.org
Background:
Rails/ActiveRecords has long been critised for not supporting legacy
databases, especially composite primary keys. This gem extends ARs with
this support.
Cheers

Wine Success and Failure report
...sd (just by meere luck) and I thought: "Hey, what If I got sound to go through Alsa before it goes into Pulseaudio?). BINGO! Instead of using padsp, I use aoss. This makes the sound go from Wine (with OSS driver) Into Alsa, and then into Pulseaudio and, finally to my 5.1 sound system!
aoss is critisized, I know, but it has been working 100%.
So, now to Counter-Strike:Source.
My first playable experiences were with ESD, and after that with OSS (the above method), but until I got Source to fully work like I wanted it to I had to:
add -dxlevel 80 -width 1280 -height 1024 to launch options (dxleve...

New Help Site - cut down on Mailing List questions
This is a re-post as it was pointed out that I replied to a different
thread instead of creating a new post. Sorry for the additional traffic.

Dear All,
I understand the excitement surrounding a service like Asterisk, and how
easy it is to jump in and ask a heap of questions. I also know how
frustrating it can be dealing with a 200+ post per day mailing list as one
of the question

API suggestions
Hi there. I made a couple of noted regarding the speex API.
These are not meant be seen as critisism - rather constructive
suggestions.
I like speex a lot, but I would like it even more if some
of the following features were available. ;)

I am surprised (and a little irritated)
I have started with using R on Windows, and I am really happy about
the system. Now, one of my other ambitions is to learn how to use
Linux, so yesterday I downloaded OpenSuse and installed that. The
next problem was to try to use R with Linux. And there I met the
wall. I've understood that RPM's are somewhat like installing
programs on Windows, so that was downloaded and started

Sub_scribe and a question
Dear all,
I am trying to get an estimate of the intercept for a linear model. In
this case, I know the slope of the model, can anyone tell me how to
constrain the formula in lm() so that it only estimates the intercept
not the slope? Many thanks in advance,
Sincerely,
