Re: 911 and lawsuits and redundancy
Hi,
Most companies we work with, have 'designated' crisis management teams.
These vary from the insignificant crisis', through to life-threatening
crisis'. There is always an assigned emergency services contact, whose
job it is in an emergency, to maintain communication with the emergency
services.
One of our corporate functions is crisis ma...

PRI Identity Crisis
Just upgraded to most recent CVS and now I get this:
pri_dchannel: PRI Error: We think we're the CPE, but they think they're
the CPE too.
when starting asterisk. Needless to say, I can't run asterisk without my
PRI.
Guess I'll start reverting code backwards day by day until I find the
code that works.

Perl vs. R
...program in Perl that reads a delimited file, creates an inverted
table and spits the file out again in key sorted order.
It's just a few lines of Perl (see below). Can someone write the equivalent
in R? The benchmark and associated files are available from:
http://www.lib.uchicago.edu/keith/crisis/benchmarks/invert/
You'll note on this page that Perl runs the benchmark in 3.5 secs. That was
in 1997. My 5.6.1 version of Perl runs it in 0.18 secs now, on my 600Mhz
Linux platform. Wondering how fast R will be in comparison.
Thanks,
John Day

DCC-GARCH model and AR(1)-GARCH(1,1) regression model
...when it comes to DCC-GARCH.
Now, using conditional correlation obtained from the DCC-GARCH model, I want
to test for structural shifts in conditional correlations. To be precise, I
want to test whether the conditional correlations significantly increase in
the turmoil period / during the Subprime crisis.
The regression model is AR(1)-GARCH(1,1), using a dummy variable specified
as:
*** the equations, you can find in the attachment ***
where the first equation is the conditional correlation among the two
indices during the Subprime crisis, Dt is a dummy variable for the turmoil
period, and t...

ocfs2 <-> 10G (10.2.01) Clusterware
RHEL 4 (CENT OS)
Am I waisting my time trying to get the 10G Clusterware installer to use OCFS2 volumes for the voting and OCR disks ?
The ocfs2 setup seems happy on both nodes but the 10G installer says
the location entered for the oracle cluster registry (OCR) is not shared across all the nodes in the cluster
Do the volumes need to mounted ? I did with no change .

OT -- A "HOWTO" is a guide not a question.
...ecently and
it''s annoying me.
If you put "HOWTO" in your subject that means that you''re posting a
guide on a particular topic. It doesn''t mean that you''re asking a
question about "how to" do something.
It''s not like it''s a crisis, but it screws up searches for real
"HOWTO" guides by poisoning the results with these posts (including
this one, yay).

Tue Dec 11 12:34:48 -0500 2007
//base/puppet/puppet::client/Service[puppet]/ensure (notice): ensure changed
''stopped'' to ''running''
It''s also quite odd that puppet when it runs it thinks it''s not running,
seems to be an existential crisis.
Anyone else seen this?

You All Get To Live!
Ok, my little experiment proved my point. Ruby 1.8.6 is not viable for production. Requiring it and dropping the cgi fix back patch isn''t an option. It''s not even clear whether the latest 1.8.6 has any remaining fixes.
So, crisis averted. Mongrel WILL NOT require 1.8.6 and now I''m going to dig out where these security fixes are coming from and how to host this kind of stuff.
Thanks for the feedback folks.

Failure when updating package nlme
...version
can??t be removed from my computer, leaving a "nlme" library with only the
"libs" sublibrary left.
As my R doesn??t start without nlme, I am stuck here. R doesn??t start with
only the "libs" left and doesn??t start without nlme. What??s going on?
It??s no big crisis as I have the nlme version from the R installation
file, but I try to keep my installation as updated as possible, so it??s
irritating. :)

Dummy variable regression
...(1)-GARCH(1,1) model in order to conduct a test of
structural shifts in conditional correlations which I previously estimated.
To be more exact, first, I estimate the conditional correlations using the
DCC-GARCH model. Now I want to check whether these correlations
significantly increased after the crisis began. For that reason I have to
use dummy variable regression. ‘1’ will stand for the turbulent period,
‘0’for the tranquility period.
This is how I programmed it in R:
d <- rep(0,991)
for (i in 814:922)
d[i]<-1;
step1 = arima(DCCrho, order = c(1,0,0), xreg=d, include.m...

OK, I'll bite. I'm aware of how annoying it is to have someone peering
over your shoulder when you are in the middle of a crisis asking
questions, but I'm curious what it is that is making johnny's site so
vulnerable. Is it forum software? I hope it's not a hack against a
package in the base...
Anyway, just wondering because I have user's complaining about the fact

Offsite server replication solution via Internet
..., are becoming increasingly concerned about the possibility of their offices becoming inaccessible for a prolonged period in the event of a terrorist attack.
We've been asked to provide a low cost solution consisting of replicated offsite servers to cater for this eventuality.
In the event of a crisis, key office personnel would be able to access their NetWare data and GroupWise email etc. from home, by accessing their backup server situated in a safe rural location.
The current solution relies on the backup server being situated at somebody's home and being restored from an office backup t...

I read from archive that OCFS is for kernel 2.6. which means RHAS4.0 is
