createlocalgroup: could not allocate a RID
Hello everybody. I have configured a linux box with samba 3.0.25b It's joined to a windows nt4 domain. It's running winbindd. Now I would like to create a local group with 'net sam createlocalgroup group_name' and adding members from the windows nt4 domain. I need this local group so I can assign permission to file/directories. This is my smb.conf: [global] workgroup = nt4domain server string = Samba on Slackware Linux idmap uid = 10000-100000000 idmap gid = 10000-100000000 i...

samba constantly creating mapping
...: DLC Alt_Name : SID : *S-1-5-21-3807515285-1394671770-2144936185* Active Directory : No Native : No Primary : No As I understand I should somehow add entry for this SID in local SAM database with "net sam". But how: with "net sam createlocalgroup" or "net sam createdomaingroup" or "net sam createbuiltingroup"? I don't understand SAM well, please advice me how to do this. Thanks. -- Vladimir Vassiliev

Samba + Nested Groups
...group addmem GRUPO_ALL GROUP1 Could not add GROUP1 to GRUPO_ALL: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_MEMBER And when I try to add a local group and then add global groups in that (as the manual explains), I can't list and not assign permissions to the local group (file system permissions). Example: # net sam createlocalgroup GRUPO_ALL Created local group GRUPO_ALL with RID 1009 # net sam addmem GRUPO_ALL GRUPO1 Added ATMSMB\GRUPO1 to ATMSMB\GRUPO_ALL # net sam addmem GRUPO_ALL GRUPO2 Added ATMSMB\GRUPO2 to ATMSMB\GRUPO_ALL # getent group GRUPO_ALL (does not return anything) Now, thank you very much for your attention....

AD Member server and local UNIX groups
Greetings, I hope someone can tell me if what I want to do is possible with Samba or not. I have been searching for info and found a number of people with similar problems, but not an answer. I have a Samba server (3.2.4) running on a Solaris 10 machine which is a member server in Active Directory (AD). I am using winbind. The AD users can access the samba server shares and UNIX services.

"net idmap dump" and "wbinfo" shows different GIDs for same SID
...while. In this question i took a log from the different server, but this is no matter: the problem persists on all of my servers. So, my OS is FreeBSD 9.0, my Samba is 3.6.18 acts as a domain member. Suppose i have a local group "samba_sge_public_createdir", created with "NET SAM CREATELOCALGROUP". "getent" and "wbinfo" shows this group with GID 30002 and SID S-1-5-21-2085021927-1344845373-2015074135-1012. But, "net idmap dump" shows this group with GID 30008 and shows no group with GID 30002 at all. [root at srv-8cf8 ~]# getent group samba_sge_public_c...

group mapping question
Hi List, I recently posted about problems i am having with deleting files belonging to members of the same unix group (as the mapped AD user that wants to delete the file via samba). I now figured out, that one possible solution is to map that unix Group to an AD group (while creating the AD group and adding users to it first). Question: Is local group membership (on the samba server) of the

tdb idmap returns different GID's for the same SID from time to time
...ating local groups for a domain users. Here part of my nsswitch.conf: group: files winbind passwd: files winbind The problem is that the tdb unix GID mappings returns different ID from time to time for the same SIDs. Suppose we have a local group "samba_svn1", created with "NET SAM CREATELOCALGROUP". After creation, group "samba_svn1" has SID S-1-5-21-3743722752-3344840800-2625497366-1074 and GID 30025. But, from time to time this SID receives a different GID mapping: 30027. Following are the result of service commands, which demonstrates a real problem: NSS is always works c...

Problems with winbind, idmap and usrmgr.exe
I am trying to get two Samba PDC/Domains setup with a trust between them. They are separate domains because they are separate companies (one is a subsidiary of the other) located in different cites. I am using Centos 5.1 x86_64 and Samba 3.0.28a packages built by me from Fedora 8 source RPMs. Based on what I have read, in order to do the trust thing I need to use Winbind/idmap to handle the non
