Identically named users and groups
...r = prox" set. Since upgrading from Samba 3.0.21b to Samba 3.0.23a, that share no longer works. smbclient gives the following error when connecting to the share: tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER The Samba server logs the following error: [2006/08/07 09:38:26, 1] auth/auth_util.c:create_token_from_username(1060) prox is a Domain Group, not a user So Samba no longer likes having a user and group by the same name. Is this an intentional change in Samba 3.0.23, or is it a bug? I don't remember seeing anything about it in the release notes. Josh Kelley

create_local_nt_token_from_info3 not pulling supplementary UNIX groups
...SIDs (S-1-22-2-xxx). I'm not sure exactly why this is the case; the code is a bit complicated. Ironically, if the user is explicitly mapped (username map in smb.conf) then it *does* work. This seems to be because an explicitly-mapped user will follow a different code path and end up using create_token_from_username which /does/ pull local UNIX groups. I don't understand why there is a difference in behavior between explicit and implicit mapping. (Implicit mapping meaning DOMAIN\name maps to local user 'name' via idmap_nss, or some other facility). I would think that either case should ultimate...

flood of (auth in progress) connections from unresponsive windows client crashing samba
Unfortunately I do not have the ability to add the user/group information to AD directly at this time. Does anyone know exactly what the following error message "means"? It shows up every time these symptoms occur, and if I could understand why the lookup fails, I might be able to prevent the issue. "lookup_name_smbconf for CLIENTHOSTNAME$ failed"

sid_to_uid/public share problem

"... is a domain, not a user" error
Hello, I'm using SaMBa to share homedirs of a linux server. Since version 3.0.23, when i try to reach the home dir of a user that have the server's name i have this error: auth/auth_util.c:create_token_from_username(1059) [user_name_here] is a Domain, not a user This happens only with security = SHARE (works fine w/ security = USER) and only for shares like \\my_servername\my_servername, all other homedirs (\\my_servername\root, \\my_servername\public, etc.) are OK. This sounds like a bug to me. My smb.con...
