Starting 4/27/2020 I started having issues installing r-base/dev packages on unbuntu 16.04. I ran into a problem installing R 3.5 on Ubuntu Bionic Beaver. In file /etc/apt/sources.list I added the repository entry "deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu bionic-cran35/". Dear Dirk (other users and Dave) PART 1 I finally was able to install R.3.5.1, however, I had to invoke the following sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys E084DAB9 As this skin of Ubuntu 18.04 (Peppermint) does not seem to allow access to the bionic-cran35 repository unless this key is set and added to the system. This is odd - well for me anyway, as for other skins of Ubunto say 16.04 (Peppermint) I do not have to do this, though when I do sudo apt-get update it does complain bitterly about the key not being validated but continues? R 3.5.1 is installed under Linux Mint 19 from binaries r-base and r-base-dev from ubuntu bionic-cran35.? Mysteriously, packages using libRblas cannot be compiled.? I get: libRblas.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.? And indeed, I find no libRblas.so. Any ideas about how to fix this? Thanks, Steve

While I've always had a straightforward experience before, this install gave some troubles.
