Help with generating data from a 'not quite' Normal distriburtion
...nd the distribution has much longer
tails. (The distribution is quite symmetrical) Can anyone suggest any
distributions I could fit to this data, and better still how I can then
generate random data from this 'distribution' using R?

bilinear regression
...d by two straight lines.
Is there a way of fitting a linear model to give me a bilinear fit and
(more importantly) automatically determine the 'cut off' point? I would
also want some statistic to convince myself that the bilinear fit is
better.
Many thanks for your help.

Help with problem - multilevel model?
...R and
wonder how I can simply go about fitting this model and looking at the
significance of the estimates in R. I also have a plot in my mind - 62
little regression lines (n=5) and think that this might be
informative.....
Any help or pointers will be gratefully received - Many Thanks.

single values from the 84 subjects but use all the data (but we are
aware this needs to be corrected for).
Any help, however small, with this problem will be gratefully received.

Query: simple autocorrelation ina time series
I hope you can help with what might be an easy query.
I am doing some simple simulations where I am generating series of data
from a normal distribution using rnorm. I am then treating these as a
time series. I want to know how I can incorporate correlation in the
series (autocorrelation) i.e. make the observations non-independent,
with a known (but simple) correlation structure. In other words I

Domain Member using winbind and local Unix accounts
Greetings,
I'd like to set up samba to use group and user credentials from our windows domain in mixed mode. I want to be able to give windows users rights to samba file shares without having to set them up with a Unix account locally. If a user does have a local Unix account I'd like to be able to use the local account for permissions.
Is this possible with winbind?
I've set up
