HP8100 & samba
just having finished this *MOST* frustrating exercise, here's what i
ended up doing.
i downloaded a file from the hp ftp site called:
hpwj_solaris_en.tar.Z
(see
http://whp-web1.extweb.hp.com/cposupport/networking/software/SOLd615.PKG.html
)
this is a complete configuration setup utility that configures your
solaris machine to serve the printer. and then you point samba to the
solaris server. more information in:

samba setup.exe rant part 2
...ng 16-bit install files work just
fine in directories w/ Long File Names.
on SAMBA 2.0.5a, i can get none of the aforementioned files to install
from directories w/ Long File Names.
a good example of the situation is the HP JetAdmin for NT installer
which can be downloaded here:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/prodhome/hpjetadmin1876.html
hp used Winzip to create the 16-bit self-extractor.
on our NT4 box, double-clicking here properly pops up the Winzip
extraction window:
\\winnt\public\printer_drivers\winnt\hpjanten.exe
on our SAMBA 2.0.5a box, double-clicking here:

Adding Printer Drivers for existing Printers (Win2000, WinNT x86)
Hi List!
I've got a problem that I've read about on the web several times now,
regarding the uploading of printer drivers to the samba [print$] share.
When I try to set the printer driver for an existing printer (HP
LaserJet 6L enabled with CUPS) the W2K wizard let me select the driver
*.inf file but when finishing I get the well known error message:

Jet Direct Printers and Plotters
We have a HP Design Jet 650C Plotter which is hooked to the net via a
jetdirect nic. Now I dont have a clue on how to use this plotter over
the net. It doesent show up in the network neighborhood and I cant find
anything about jetdirect plotters in the Linux documentation or the
inet. The server is running Suse Linux 6.2 and Samba 2.05a.

...ux and most other UNIX's use. However, Samba will
work fine with HPUX with the following setups:
1) First make sure the HPUX box can print to the printer from the command
prompt (ie: lp -dd001i050a file.txt). For help getting that to work, you
need to use with Web JetAdmin
(http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpwebjetad1880_swen.html) or the
Jetdirect Printer Install for Unix (JPIU and my personal choice)
(http://www.hp.com/cposupport/nonjsnav/hpuxandsol28679.html). The JetAdmin
product I believe is being discontinued for HPUX and these are the
replacements.
2) Once you can print from HPUX,...
