how a domain user can become a local administrator ?
Hi list, I'm using Samba wit a LDAP server. Everything works fine, but I'd like to know how I can declare a user or a group user as an administrator of the workstation he/she is logged in. I tried to modify the guid and the SambaSID in the ldap server, but it doesn't work. Is there another solution than to declare locally on the workstation that such group must be of the local

synchronise time
Hi, in my logon.bat file i put : net time \\admin /SET /YES to synchronise computer time with the server. This works when the user who is login in has administrator rights on the computer. How can i do with users who are just "member of the domain"? Is there a way to run this command "as administrator" ? Thanks for any help

login scripts do not run
I have a simple script that sets the time on a Windows client at startup. The one-line script: net time \\myhost /set /yes Works perfectly well when I double-click it from Windows Explorer, so I don't think the problem lies there. The relevant lines in my smb.conf file: [global] time server = yes logon script = smbtimeset.BAT [netlogon] comment = shared scripts path =

Logon Script - edit registry
There is the issue with permissions, but you may use cpau.exe it is like "runas " but more features, then run it as the local system account. It works fine, here is an example like I used it. For the systemaccountpassword enter an empty space.... %windir%\system32\cpau -u localhost\system -p -ex "reg DELETE HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows...

Netlogon Service Privileged Account
Hey all, Let me first start by saying everything is working as expected so far! This is about my login script being shared from the netlogon directory. My XP client sees and executes the 99% of the script. The last little bit is permissions-related. In my logon.vbs script I am attempting to set the registry key to disable offline folder syncs. A "Domain User" cannot uncheck this

local admin rights for roaming profiles
Hi. I have a samba server designed to PDC on my network. The roaming profiles is enabled and work fine. But some apps used from the samba server share, apparently need to the user in the station have admin privileges. Im enabling in the station (XP or Win7) the admin privileges to the station asigned user (DOMAIN\user) but in that case, the roaming profile is not a complete solution, because

How to assign Administrator's rights?
Most of my users (unfortunately me included) need to use a bloated, badly designed piece of sh^Hoftware that only works with administrator's rights (I won't say names but it's from a big german company strongly pushing for software patents). How can I assign those users Administrator's rights without phisically going to each machine? I cold put them in the 'Domain

is this a DNS resolution problem ?
...n Emr?n (thank you very much Staffan). The fact is the rights are given before login time. So even if I write a script to put a domain user/group in the local administrators group, it won't have the rights until next connection. For adding the user to the local administrators, I'm using CPAU, wich works perfectly.

Permission problems writing to Share from SQL Agent
Hello: I have a client that is using MS SQL Server in a Windows 2003 server. They have a Linux machine (Fedora Core 3) that is acting as a file server using Samba. We want to write backups from the SQL Agent for SQL Server to one of the shares on the Samba server. If I set the share to allow guest access, the SQL Agent can write the backups just fine using \\Shares\SQLBackups\pubs.bak but, if

logon scripts by group
Hi, I am having a hard time figuring out how to have logon scripts that only execute if the user is a member of a certain group. I had the smart idea of putting the supplemental logon script in a share only available to the group, and then calling it from the normal logon script using "CALL "path_to_script". However it looks like it always executes that CALL even if the user

distribute/deploy software to clients
Hello, I run a Windows domain based on Samba 3 and I am searching for a way to distribute/deploy software to clients. I.e., a user logging on to a client, software should be automatically installed or upgraded. Is there any common solution? I heard of MSI packages, but I don't know if it is necessary to create MSI packages of all installations... Thanks Florian
