cpan2rpm
When you use --no-depchk with this tool, does this actually turn off the dependency
check in the final rpm as well? Reading docs about this I am not sure and I just installed
an rpm that I know I am missing the deps for and built with this switch and it installed fine?

PERL module woes
...issing dependency error (Coro::Signals) and says it
won't be installed.
Each of these modules has quite an impressive list of dependencies in
return. Now I already performed a manual install of these on Slackware,
and it ran fine. So I gave it a try here. Following a suggestion on IRC,
I used cpan2rpm for this. But I couldn't get past the second module.
The first two dependencies are ExtUtils::Depends and
ExtUtils::PkgConfig. Now I can install *one* of these fine with
cpan2rpm, but when I get to the second module, I can't rpm -ivh it,
because RPM complains about a clash with the other m...

Perl Module Question
...t/cpan
export PERL5LIB
/usr/perl5/bin/perlgcc -MCPAN -e shell
Also, ~/.cpan/CPAN/MyConfig.pm specifically had
'makepl_arg' => q[LIB=/opt/cpan PREFIX=/opt/cpan INSTALLMAN3DIR=/opt/cpan/man/man3],
Does this make sense in CentOS as well when the modules just aren't available and using
cpan2rpm has me chasing my tail endlessly on deps?
Thanks!

Oracle instantclient on CentOS 4.4 with DBD::Oracle
...ence on installing the Oracle instantclient and
DBD::Oracle on CentOS 4.4.
I have been having several issues with getting the RPMs from Oracle's site
working with DBD::Oracle. I can get the oracle instant client to install
without issue. But I cannot compile/install DBD::Oracle using cpan or
cpan2rpm.
I found http://freshrpms.net/docs/oracle/ which has a nosrc rpm for the
oracle instant client but I cannot find the ZIP files that are referenced
in the SPEC file as Oracle has released a new version.
When I try to build perl-DBD-Oracle-1.16-4.el4.src.rpm from that page it

Managing R packages under Linux
...is a programming language for statistics, basically, and has a few
jillion add on package libraries, very much like PERL, and uses the CRAN
(Comprehensive R Archive Network) to provide install mirrors of the
package library all over the world.
If there were a cran2rpm program, like PERL''s cpan2rpm, life would be
easy, but there doesn''t seem to be such a beast.
R includes a package handler that can be used to install packages
automatically from the shell command line or from within a running R
instance, and I''ve got an R program to do the installs, but no good way
to manage...

perl module to parse httpd log on C5
...'install ApacheLog::Parser'
------------------ end snip -----------
the above worked on a fresh install of C5.2 with a LAMP setup.
CPAN asked for ncftp in its setup.
I must have tried 50-60 commands before I settled on the abbreviated version above.
As an exercise, I took a shot at using cpan2rpm to package the
tar.gz's into RPM's
the resulting RPM's are here:
http://www.tlviewer.org/fostats
they are signed with my RPM-GPG key

CentOS 4 CPAN problem
Not sure if this is the proper list, but I've spent days browsing for the
solution. This only happens on the CentOS machine, so I'll start here.
After upgrading CPAN, I get the following:
undefined subroutine &Compress::Zlib::gzopen called at
/usr/lib/perl5/5.8.5/CPAN/Tarzip.pm line 102.
"gzopen" seems to refer to a PHP command. Am I missing a module, or have I hit

to get right while staying with somewhat standard packages. I suspect it's
in the repo but not actually tested, as I've tried quite a few combinations
of using this RPM with the CentOS4 mod_perl and my own mod_perl 2 built using
cpan2rpm, as well as my own perl-Apache-ASP.rpm built from CPAN.
I've also experienced problems with compiling ePerl into and RPM, mainly due
to it's age, but I can probably patch this to get it to build.
Suggestions for other solutions with similar functionality are welcome, I'm

CPAN Question
Maybe a little off-topic. But using cpan, I tried to install IO::Compress::Base 2.006.
I already had 2.005 installed. For the life of me, I couldn't get it to upgrade.
It finally occurred to me to download the ".tgz" file, and install it that way.
That worked.
But does anyone have any hints on how to force cpan to upgrade? I even tried
the "upgrade" command, and that

best repo for perl-IO-Zlib perl-Archive-Tar
With all due respect to the various people, their hard work and associated
repos, where is the best place to do a yum install for these two packages
below in regards to an internet facing production Centos 4.4 server
perl-IO-Zlib
perl-Archive-Tar
I noticed dag and karan repos appear to have it and my experience and
research tells me that using CPAN is not an option for possible problems at

rt3 3.8.2 latest version as rpm for C5?
Hi,
I know, epel has rt3 in version 3.6.x.
And - sadly - for version 3.8.x the perl module dependencies are way
ahead of what I can find in epel or rpmforge.
But we really need some of the 3.8.x series features.
So has anybody maybe built those modules + rt3 v3.8.x for C5?
Any hint?
I really do not want to install f10. :O
Thx

missing dependency for package
Hello everyone,
I know this isn't strictly CentOS query, but I am hoping that someone
here with more experience than myself might have some thoughts.
I am trying to get a plugin working for Ganglia on a CentOS 5.5 box,
in a testing environment. The plugin is for apache monitoring, called
Ganglia-Logtailer. This plugin requires the executable
/usr/bin/logtail in order to work. The only

perl updates always break perl programs, how to fix?
I realize this is my fault because once upon a time I installed a package
using CPAN and probably other admins on the system have as well but now
whenever I update perl I have to jump through hoops to get perl applications
to work again (usually updating Scalar::Util and another package with CPAN).
I would love to figure out how to fix this so it's not such a headache to
keep up to date with

NYC Puppet Meetup
Hi All,
We are wanting to having a Puppet Meetup in NYC on February 3th, 2009,
6:30 PM. Place to be determined. Baring that my wife doesn''t give
birth by then (which would prevent me from making it) how does this
sound to everyone else?
Brian G.,
Can you rally up the troops and also invite people from other groups?
Also let''s have some specific topics to discuss.

OT: Installing munin-node cleanly in spite of RPM
Hi,
This is totally off-topic (it''s an rpm/rpmbuild problem), but I want to
get to a point where I''m installing and configuring munin-node with
puppet. To do that, I need a clean, standardized way of installing
munin-mode on CentOS (RHELish) boxes.
I could install munin-node from source via puppet and probably make
enough edits that all the files end up in reasonable locations
