Samba as a client to Windows2000 + special characters on filenames

The setup:
server: Windows 2000 (EN) with Service Pack 3
client: Debian Sarge (testing) with Samba 3.0 and kernel 2.4.22
To mount the filesystem, I am (successfully) using:
[breno@intra:/testing]# mount -t smbfs -o
username=user,password=pass,ro,codepage=cp860 //servername/sharename
/testing/smbmnt/
The read-only is so that I don't want to tinker in writing until I can at least
read my files correctly.
To map the problem, I have set up on my Windows server a directory with files
meant to check out all the troubled characters:

...;From the Windows point of view, everything is ok, but in the Linux
filesystem, those characters became a real mess.
The problem is that i need to record CDs directly on the server, and i
have a good deal of file and directory names all messed up.
I've already tried using "unix charset = CP860" (860 is the portuguese
codepage) in smb.conf, but no good.
I've read the documentation, but got to no conclusion.
In short, i'd like to when a user saves a file, let's say "ol?.txt" in a
Samba share, the file in the Linux filesystem is also called "ol?.txt"

smbmount problem
Hello all:
I have an annoying problem with smbmount; My Win2k server has many
folders and files named with accented characters (cp850 and/or cp860 or
European w/0 euro or Portugese).
My mount command is:
mount -t smbfs -o username=leo,codepage=cp850 //<servername>/d$ /mnt/pt
to mount my d: drive at /mnt/pt
I am prompted for my password and the shared folder is mounted. I can
