Question - TukeyHSD
Hi,
I've been performing some TukeyHSD tests in R and have come across papers that include all the necessary information (means, sample size and SE) for me to perform the piecewise comparison by hand. I can reach out to the authors to get the original dataset, but it raises the question, can I perform the Test with the information I have and save myself some time? Is there a way to somehow

Documents in home folder 'Read Only'
My user is logged in to the Samba Server.
smb.conf has the following:
[homes]
comment = Home Directories
read only = No
create mask = 0775
directory mask = 0775
browseable = No
writeable = Yes
The files in the user's home directory are set to chmod 777.
What do I need to do to enable the user to write to her Directory?

Auitomatic Password synchronisation
I have set up Samba on a Debian Lenny server. I have set up the users
by using 'adduser' and then using 'smbpassword -a username' to add the
users to the Samba users database.
The users have the same username on both their Windows Client and the
Samba server.

ZFS Boot for Solaris SPARC
Hi,
Searching this alias I can find a number of guides and scripts that
describe the configuration of Solaris to boot from a ZFS rootpool.
However, these guides appear to be Solaris 10 x86 specific.
Is the creation of a ZFS boot disk available for Solaris SPARC ?
If so, could you point me in the direction of where I can obtain details
of this new feature from.
Thanks and Regards,
Paul.

str and class
In previous versions of the gnm package, the terms component of "gnm"
objects had a "classID" attribute. This caused problems when used with
str as the following simple example illustrates:

> attr(x, "classID") <- "type1"
> str(x)

Rsync 2.5.5 (Digital Unix 4.0f) Large Filesets...
Hi,
I've been trying to use rsync to backup the content of a large web
application on our Digital unix servers. I'm having some success but the
main problem is the sheer number of files and subdirectories which must be
copied/maintained between the two servers (one is our standby system).
Believe it or not there are in excess of 7.5 million files/directories
which must be synced between

IP address given to WINS on a server with multiple interfaces
I have a server that has one interface onto a private subnet, and
another connected to our LAN. I found that the IP address in WINS was
the IP address of the private interface, so things weren't working. By
using the "interfaces" setting in smb.conf I was able to force the use
of the correct IP address.
Now, I notice that the manual says, "By default Samba will query the

--exclude-from works but "exclude from" in rsyncd.conf doesn't ?
I'm setting rsync up for the first time and would prefer to have the
exclude file defined in the conf file, but the exclusions aren't
honoured when I define the parameter in rsyncd.conf - although they are
when I specify the file in an argument. The server is the remote system
and both rsyncd.conf and the exclude file are the same on both local and
remote systems. I'm attaching the

Error message in vars package
Hi
I'm getting an error message with the roots() function in the vars package.
Even the example in the help file comes up with an error:

> roots(var.2c)
Error in UseMethod("roots") :

Model formula question
Hi all,
I'm not familiar with R programming and I'm trying to reproduce a
result from a paper.
Basically, I have a dataset which I would like to model in terms of
successive increments, i.e. (y denote empirical values of y)
y_1 = y1,
y_2 = y1 + delta1,
y_3 = y1 + delta1 + delta2.
...
y_m = y1 + sum_2^m delta j
where delta_j donote successive increments in the y-values, i.e.

Using matprod from array.c
Hi,
I was wondering if I could use the matprod function from array.c in my own C routine. I tried the following as a test
/* my_matprod.c */
# include <Rinternals.h> /* for REAL, SEXP etc */
# include <R_ext/Applic.h> /* array.c says need for dgemm */
/* following copied from array.c */
static void matprod(double *x, int nrx, int ncx,
double *y, int nry, int ncy, double *z)

Re: [R-SIG-Mac] NaN and linear algebra
No, blas/veclib is tested, so aprt this extreme case you should report
some other more commonly used cases in which something fails on OS X.
This will help us to work it out.
As said, I'll try some tests without using veclib and let you know.
I've fowarded this mail to r-devel, which seems to be the right place,
so for future msg on the subject please use r-devel.

Arimax with intervention dummy and multiple covariates
Hi
I'm trying to measure the effect of a policy intervention (Box and Tiao, 1975).
This query has to do with the coding of the model rather than with the particulars of my dataset, so I'm not providing the actual dataset (or a simulated one) in this case, apart from some general description.
The time series are of length n=34 (annual observations between 1977 and 2010). The policy
