ThePirateBay.org take advantage of HTML5's <VIDEO>
Word just came in from TorrentFreak that ThePirateBay.org have been working on a streaming video website for countless months that takes advantage of the free media formats OGG, Theora and Vorbis. While filesharing in itself is a controversial subject, this will place HTML5's <VIDEO> and <AUDIO> tag--and more importantly the OGG Theora+Vorbis multimedia format--in the spotlight of countless peop...

yum update --skip-broken failure
Though I've used it countless times in the past, "yum update --skip-broken" doesn't work anymore... it doesn't skip over updates which have dependency problems. Is this a known issue? Is there a work-around for it? Has anyone else experienced this? tnx.

samba 4.5.1 DC: attribute names are upper-case converted on replication

VGA passthrough nVidia NVS 295
I want to try to get VGA passthrough working in a Windows 7 x64 domU. I''m running debian squeeze/testing/unstable with Jeremy''s 2.6.32.x kernel. The best I got to work is the device showing up under Windows 7, with all resources and whatnot. I''ve applied the vga-loadbios patch and vBAR-pBAR patch to xen, and the vBAR-pBAR patch to qemu-dm. This behaviour

broken samba-4.1.8 waf configure
...irectories even though they contain absolutely nothing... begin soapbox diatribe: i have run into waf in more than one package. EVERY time, waf screws up to the point where its package will NOT compile at all. i wish you would go back to the traditional ./configure program that works well countless times with countless packages. end soapbox mode. please correct your dependency upon fixed locations (/usr/local/...) and restore the flexibility provided by --with-package-dir=/some/tree/package. the frustrated frank smith -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Choose from over 50 domains or use your own

CAC Access Bank
I just picked up a couple CAC Access Bank 1s loaded with FXS that should be arriving shortly. Does anyone have one that they use with Asterisk? If so, would you be willing to shoot me a note with your current configs? I'm not very familiar with CAC/etc, and it would save me countless hours of muddling through .. :) Any others tips you can give me on these banks would be very appreciated. Also, any cheap source for FXOs on them? I'm told they're hard to come by .. Thanks again, -d

On what versions of FreeBSD can we unreserve ports?
On which versions of FreeBSD is it now possible to un-reserve ports? ( I've been waiting for this since forever ... have spent countless days - $$$ - trying to install workarounds, only to junk them later. I've even been paid a consulting gig to develop this, and declined to deploy it on my own servers :-/ ) iang http://askslim.blogspot.com/2006/05/freebsd-61-disabling-reserverd-ports.html Friday, May 26, 2006 FreeBSD 6.1:...

Unable to map AD Users to existing local Unix users since 4.8.x
...-------------------- With the upgrade to Samba 4.8.x as delivered by Red Hat RHEL7.6, all that is broken and remains broken in 4.9.x. Any server with the upgrade could not do basic functionality and prompted us for username/password. It took a long time to fight it back to 'working kinda'. Countless hours and cases spent with Red Hat support. Red Hat's attempts to get us 'current' -------------------------------------- Red Hat support stated we were on an unsupported configuration and needed to implement Winbind. This resulted in a host of unexpected side-effects, namely that...

WHy is rails so annoying to deploy?
I''ve been having great fun trying to deploy a fresh install of rails on debian, specifically xlsuite to test it out, but my god how many more errors can I take before I give up. RAILS IS NOT NICE After battling with countless different errors from trying Ubuntu, Fedora, Windows and now Debian the list goes on and on and ON... now the latest error `load_missing_constant'': uninitialized constant ActionController::AbstractRequest (NameError) is now coming up due to some missing code in the latest rails 2.3.3, s...

Again on overlaying plots (a plot region within a plot region)
Dear R-users, after seeking for help in R-search I did not find any hint on my particular problem. Countless help on "true" overlay, but nothing on this. Please consider the following: par(mfrow = c(2, 1)) T <- seq(0, 20, by = 0.01) ## PLOT 1 plot(T, 30*exp(-0.65*T), type = "l" ) points(T, 30*exp(-0.26 * T), type = "l", lty = "F8") points(T, 30*exp(...

Free Redhat Linux (rhel) version 7.2
...t;everyone has to > upgrade to Windows 10 like it or not" mentality. CentOS still has a > lot of things to offer that you don't get from the free developer > subscription. I refuse to do anything at all on a Microsoft machine. I feel ill when I see the M$ screens and remember the countless months of my life frustratingly wasted trying to get M$ crap to work. Centos is true liberation and how computer operating systems should be. I would like the EU to ban the monopoly of M$ on all laptops sold in the EU. Instead of paying the M$ tax, users should have a choice of operating systems...

CentOS 8 Coming When???
It's also a good time to remind people that CentOS is free-as-in-beer. The people building it are often doing a thankless job, yet just the same, one that improves the lives of countless users. Getting upset that people, who are doing something to give away for free, are taking too much time is not motivating or appreciative. Lets be patient and let the developers do their work. It will come out soon enough. :) digimer On 2019-06-07 5:59 p.m., Tate Belden wrote: > And the ans...

Getting rid of all the .rpmsave files
Hi list! After yum upgrade of my CentOS 4.0 to 4.2 x86_64 box I now have countless .rpmsave files, about 90% of them I never touched or are config/start scripts. Does anyone have a neat script that will find all the rpmsave stuff in /etc and then prompts per file whether it can replace the original or not? Somehow doing this all by hand doesn't seem a very attractive ide...

ssh -f and pid
I'd like to second the patch -- or functionality like it -- that Folkert van Heusden proposed twelve months ago for the distribution. Without ssh -f returning the pid to the caller, numerous daemon and script monitor packages can't manage ssh, as they can countless other daemons that properly return pid. A monitor needs to record the pids of ssh processes it has started to kill them or to know when they have died. Proper keep alive settings are no use against connections reset by peer. > Hi, Ssh -f forks itself in the background. Very usefull if you wo...

Screen resolution switch with DGA
...tried the Managed and Unmanaged options). Thing is, my X desktop is 1600x1200x16bpp and of course Diablo 2 is only 800x600. Is there any way to have this resolution automagically change to 800x600 (nothing seems to do that here), and back when I exit it? I know it's not a problem with my X. Countless other games support it [SoF, Wolfenstein,... ] under X. Running Codeweavers Wine and XFree86 4.1.0 Help appreciated...

Samba Configuration
Maybe I'm missing this - but I'm having problems setting up some file shares that are limited to certain groups. I've done countless searches on setups and on the tree connnect failed error message, and just haven't found anything that solves my problem. I am able to create shares that are basically open to the public, but I know the security is all messed up. I have openLDAP set up, can log onto the Samba server, but when...
