getting all circular arrangements without accounting for order
Dear friends,
I would like to get all possible arrangements of n objects listed 1:n on a circle.
Now this is easy to do in R. Keep the last spot fixed at n and fill in the rest using permuations(n-1, n-1) from the gtools package.
However, what if clockwise or counterclockwise arrangements are the same? I know that half of the above (n - 1)! arrangements are redundant.
Is there an easy way to list these (n-1)!/2 arrangements?
I thought of only listing the first half from a call to permuations(n - 1, n - 1), but while this holds for n = 4, it does not for n = 5. So, I...

Re: [R} stars graphs
I thought about that star graph again, and realized that it would be quite
a handy thing for visualizing cyclic data like time or compass direction.
Here is a cleaned up (and renamed) version to do a polar plot that starts
at the right and goes counterclockwise or a 24 hour clock plot that starts
at the top and goes clockwise. There are probably other varieties that
would be interesting.

Rotating margin text
R 2.14.1
OS X
Colleagues,
I am making a graphic with two y-axes. I create the label for the right-side axis with:
mtext(side=4, line=1, "Some text")
The label is rotated 90° counterclockwise. I would prefer that it be rotated 90° clockwise. However, srt is not supported for mtext and las does not offer this option. Is there some other means to rotate the text string?
Thanks in advance.

Problem: Print to PDF using MS Office
Hello,
I am a new member of this forum. One of the reasons I registered was that I could not clarify following question:
I cannot print to PDF using MS Office 2003. I am running it on Wine, I have Ubuntu Intrepid. Of course I can open the same xls or doc file in Open Office, but these files are very precise and sensitive, and OO distorts their fine architecture.
I did not try frank print

How to rotate a contour?
Hello!
I have a contour and I need *to rotate* it 180 degrees counterclockwise and
180 degrees around the x-axis.
This is a code. I get all the values from the ncdf file:
A = get.var.ncdf(nc, "air", start=c(1,1,1,1), count=c(144,73,1,1))
contour(A)
Thank you!

aggregate wind direction data with wind speed required
Dear list users,
I have to aggregate wind direction data (wd) using a function that requires also a second input variable, wind speed (ws).
This is the function that I need to use:
my_fun <- function(wd1, ws1){
u_component <- -ws1*sin(2*pi*wd1/360)
v_component <- -ws1*cos(2*pi*wd1/360)
mean_u <- mean(u_component, na.rm=T)
mean_v <- mean(v_component, na.rm=T)

Geometry delaunayn and deldir results, differing results from Octave due to decimal precision?
The problem:
I would like to translate the Octave algorithm in griddata.m to R.
Within the griddata algorithm calls are made to the Delaunay function. For the R translation I have found delaunayn within the "geometry" package and also the deldir package.
Both do similar things but give slightly different results depending on the input.
The question is, what is making the results for the
