Evernote Cannot Connect To Internet
Hi I'm trying to run Evernote under Wine and it installs correctly, but after that it asks for login and password. I put them, press login and it says "Can't connect to server. Please try later". The most sad thing was I could run Evernote successfully on Wine under previous versions of Ubuntu, but it doesn't work on the latest 12.04. Versions...

How create vector that sums correct responses for multiple subjects?
I have a data file with indicates pretest scores for a linguistics experiment. The data are in long form so for each of 33 subjects there are 400 rows, one for each item on the test, and there is a column called ‘Correct’ that shows ‘C’ for a correct response and ‘E’ for an incorrect response. I am trying to write a formula that will create a vector that indicates the number of correct answers for each subject. The following: nrow(pretestdata[(pretestdata$Subject=="1" & pretestdata$Correct==&qu...

Model validation and penalization with rms package
I?ve been using Frank Harrell?s rms package to do bootstrap model validation. Is it the case that the optimum penalization may still give a model which is substantially overfitted? I calculated corrected R^2, optimism in R^2, and corrected slope for various penalties for a simple example: x1 <- rnorm(45) x2 <- rnorm(45) x3 <- rnorm(45) y <- x1 + 2*x2 + rnorm(45,0,3) ols0 <- ols(y ~ x1 + x2 + x3, x=TRUE, y=TRUE) corrected.Rsq <- rep(0,60) optimism.Rsq <- rep(0,60) corrected...

using tapply with multiple variables
HI All, I have a long data file generated from a minimal pair test that I gave to learners of Arabic before and after a phonetic training regime. For each of thirty some subjects there are 800 rows of data, from each of 400 items at pre and posttest. For each item the subject got correct, there is a 'C' in the column 'Correct'. The line: tapply(ALLDATA$Correct, ALLDATA$Subject, function(x)sum(x=="C")) gives me the sum of correct answers for each subject. However, I would like to have that sum separated by Time (pre or post). Is there a simple way to d...

About continuity correction option in the mantelhaen.test function.
Hello, I was using the mantelhaen.test function (2x2 J tables for conditional independence testing). I noticed that the option for the continuity correction (correction=T or correction=F) sometimes made a difference while sometimes it did give the same results regardless of correction=T or correction=F. Does the continuity correction apply only in certain cases or in certain strata with some rules ? Could you let me know why I am seeing no diff...

prop.test confidence intervals (PR#2794)
...propriate confidence intervals for the case where the vector length of x and n is one. (I am not certain about higher vector lengths.) As an example, I include x=6 and n=42 which has a mean proportion of 0.115. When I calculate the 95% CI using the normal approximation by hand (and no continuity correction) I get (0.028, 0.202). The exact binomial CI from binom.test() is (0.044, 0.234). With correct=FALSE prop.test produces CI95 = (0.05396969, 0.22971664) which is neither of these. With correct=TRUE it produces (0.04778925, 0.2412937) This seems reasonably like a normal approximation 95% CI (w...
