I am running redhat 7.3 with Samba 2.2.4. I was wondering if there was a way to use Samba to resolve my IPs instead of having to add all the entries to my /etc/hosts file? For instance, I would like to be able to do `ping acormany` instead of `ping <IP Address>`. We are currently using WINS on a Windows box to resolve the IPs. As of right now, I can `ping acormany` on a Windows system, but not on my Redhat 7.3. Can this be resolved through Samba? If so, could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks Adam Corma...

...performance. Please tell me there is a way for Samba to be as faster or faster as Windows 2000 instead of being twice as slow... The test was run on a dual processor 200MHZ, 256MB RAM, 10/100 NIC card(only running at 10 though to my PC). Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have Samba 2.2.4 installed on Redhat 7.3. I was trying to set up printers through it and everything works great on from a Windows 2000 Professional Client, but a Windows XP Client dies a miserable death when trying to view the properties of a printer. On the Windows XP Client side, I get: Properties clould not be displayed, procedure could not be finished On the Redhat 7.3 side, I'm seeing:

I know some older kernels were removed from the system, so I'm not sure if that's the cause of it all or not. When I try to configure samba now, I get a lot of checks not found.
