force user and read only
Hi
I need a share with read-only access for some developers (to read
logfiles). the logfiles are owned by the application user and group
and have 700 permissions. I have set up the share like this:
path = /applicationx/logs
read only = Yes

Best way to Upgrade Samba 3.014a
Hello,
I have Samba 3.014a-Debian in a server Debian 3.1 Release 1 Sarge. The
performance is pretty poor.
My LAN is running at 100mbits/sec. So even at 4 feet from the server I'm
getting slow responses on my windoze 2000 pro computer from samba. It takes
an eternity to copy files from one place to the other. Also, I have
several error messages and files corruption.

SAMBA: how do I tell SAMBA to not prompt for id/passwords when connecting from windows (vista)
I have a linux box on my home network and it also has xp and win viata on the same network.
It is all friendly - how do I drop the need for Id/pw (if I can't, how do I set the id/pw
so what I type in win vista gets passed to samba cleanly and thus I get in. I have tried
many things in smb.conf and cannot figure it out

Implementation Question
I'm setting up a small network and I would like to have centralized
authentication. I have no need for active directory so samba makes sense.
The desktops will be running Windows XP but there are a few other
servers (a linux mail server, web server and file server) that I would
like to be able to use the centralized authentication with.
So my question is, is it better to configure samba

Access Based Enumeration
Microsoft has an add on for Windows 2003 SP1 that will do access based
enumeration.
This is great because of "out of sight, out of mind". If the user
doesn't have privilege to access the directory or file it doesn't show
up in the directory listing.

Any idea when samba will be able to do the same (if it

svcctl - access denied
I have a samba 3.0.23a server that is a member of a Windows 2003 Active
Directory domain. I can use the Services MMC to see the services specified in
the svcctl list option in smb.conf but trying to stop/start any services gives
me an "Access Denied".
I have tried this as a normal user as well as the domain Administrator account.
I'm sure it's something I'm missing, but I

Share Admin
I've got a share that I'm trying to get so I can set permissions
through the normal windows way (right click on
folder/file->properties->security).
The share definition is:

comment = Test share on magellan
path = /var/test
browseable = yes
writable = yes
hide unreadable = yes
admin users = @"Domain Admins"
The server is a member server in
