Computer Accounts
Hi, I've just migrated NT domain to samba+ldap - works great, but there is one thing I don't quite understand: What is the reason to have a 'computer account' on host UNIX serving samba? I know, that NT PDC needs ID+password for each computer within its domain. But samba TDB or LDAP pwdb backend look quite sufficient. I don't see a reason to have those exposed (shadowed) as

To implement OO or not in R package, and if so, how to structure it?
...writing an R package that will provide a framework for analyzing structural models of trees (as in trees made of wood, not statistical trees). These models are generated from laser scanning instruments and model fitting algorithms, and hence may have aspects that are data-heavy. Furthermore, coputing metrics based on these structures can be computationally heavy. Finally, as a result, each tree has a number of metrics associated with it (which may be expensive to calculate), along with the underlying data of that tree. It will be important as well to perform calculations across many of th...

Samba server rejects (Win95) request

So far everything (i.e. installation) worked fine, I installed samba from .rpm and nmbd, smbd is started at boot successfully. I can see the Samba server in the Windows95 network environment, but when I doubleclick on it or when I try to smbmount a service from another Linux machine I

R 2.9.0 is released
I've rolled up R-2.9.0.tar.gz a short while ago. This is a development release which contains a number of new features. Also, a number of mostly minor bugs have been fixed. See the full list of changes below. You can get it (later today) from http://cran.r-project.org/src/base/R-2/R-2.9.0.tar.gz or wait for it to be mirrored at a CRAN site nearer to you.
