Upgrading LDAP entries from 2.2.7 for Samba 3 not happening
...are
ready to move to Samba 3 though, and this is where the trouble begins.
We do not have a domain set up. We have a few samba boxes and they just use
the ldap servers to get their passwords from. (no roaming desktops or
anything like that.)
I did a bit of reading up and see that I need to run the convertSambaAccount
script against an ldif export.
So here's what I did
ldapsearch -LL -x -h localhost -D
"uid=root,ou=People,dc=newberg,dc=k12,dc=or,dc=us" -b
"ou=People,dc=newberg,dc=k12,dc=or,dc=us" -w > old.ldif
I got an ldif no problem. I don't really know what a SID is or what...

convertSambaAccount from non-PDC to non-PDC
...Samba 2.x authenticating UNIX and Samba users to
OpenLDAP 2.0.x fro quite some time. Now I need to upgrade OpenLDAP to
2.2.x and Samba to 3.0.x. Although I've been using OpenLDAP with the
old samba schema to authenticate Samba users, I did not have a PDC set
up. Now when I try to use the convertSambaAccount script to move to the
new Samba schema it says "You must provide a domain sid". The Samba
documentation told me how to get the sid from my PDC but I don't have a PDC?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jason

Migrating from Samba2.2.8a+LDAP+PDC to Samba3+ldapsam
Hi, and thanks in advance for your support (sorry my english)
Is there any documentation for migrating Samba 2.2 with LDAP and PDC
suport to Samba3 with PDC and LDAPSAM?
I try to explain the situation:
Only one server running Mandrake 9.2 + Samba 2.2.8a with ldap support
(from precompiled contrib); and I wish to migrate to Samba3+LDAPSAM. My
real problem is that I must use ldap because I also use

samba-3.0.0 release won't authenticate
Hello,
This is the 3rd time I'm sending the message.
I've just upgraded from samba3-alpha23 to samba3.0.0 release. I'm
running samba with an LDAP backend and I used the convertSambaAccount
conversion script, and now the latest 3.0.0 ldap schema. The problem I
have is that no Windows user can authenticate against their home
directory, or any other machine. Authentication against the login screen
works, but not to any shares.
I don't understand how this happens all of the sudden,...

Upgrading from 2.2.7 to 3.0.3
...ver? I can get Samba
3.0.3 and Openldap to work with a new install however when I attempt to
import my old LDAP database I have to change the user's password and rejoin
the workstations to the domain. Do I have to do this or should it be pretty
seamless? I converted my ldif file by running ./convertsambaaccount --sid
S. --input old.ldif --output new.ldif and imported into my LDAP database
however I can't login unless I change the user's password. I have around
1000 users and 1000+ workstations so changing every password isn't an
option. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Changing from samba 2-2.8a to 3.1 with ldap?
Hi, I am trying to upgrade from old samba to new one, I replaced the
samba.schema for open-ldap, changed the smb.conf file to:
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap//localhost added ldap amin dn and suffix
options but it still aint working with the old ldap records? Do I have
to dump the old records and update them with some changes to the ldap
with new schema or is samba3 ldap backward compatible?

migrating samba 2.2.8a PDC to 3.0.12 SID problem
hi, i'm trying to migrate my samba 2.2.8a pdc to 3.0.12 pdc. I'm using
ldap and i have already migrated all the data. Also i have executed
convertSambaAccount for the new schema.
My problem is that I cannot set the old SID (samba 2.2.8) to the new
samba 3.0.12 for that the clients can authentificate to pdc server.
samba2.2.8> smbpasswd -S LDAP

samba 3.0 with ldap / sambaSID
Hello,
I'm lloking for a way to convert my company's existing samba2.2 ldap
backed service to samba 3.0. What's particulary making me curious is the
sambaSID. As I've read it is the unique identifier of a PDC in the
windows world. So, how does samba3 generate this? Is it supposed to be
changed by the admin or is it determined by samba on the first startup?
Any pointer to a doc

Upgrading 3.0alpha -> 3.0.0.rc2, error C000019b for old users only

- Samba acting as a PDC

Debian)
I have successfully compiled and installed the new version. I have
extracted all users from the LDAP tree and converted them to the new

I made a backup of my old samba dir (/usr/local/samba) and installed
the new one to this location. Copied the old smb.conf to
/usr/local/samba/lib.
So far, so good. Trying to log on from any of the NT4 machines in the

New Samba 3.0 Schema

didn't miss something.
I have done the following so far:
-Built the test server (RedHat Enterprise Linux ES 3.0)
-Installed Samba
-Installed OpenLDAP
-Dumped the previous LDAP directory to an LDIF file
-Used 'net rpc getsid' to extract the existing Domain SID
-Used 'convertSambaAccount' to translate the old LDAP info to new LDAP info
-Used 'slapadd' to import the new info in the LDAP directory
-Made changes to /etc/openldap/slapd.conf, /etc/openldap/ldap.conf,
/etc/ldap.conf to make the new LDAP directory available

Can someone verify my checklist?
...lt;< (*)=done , (-) = remaining >>
* Download and install Samba 3.0.2a on the new server
* Clone (by hand) hostname, sldapd, nssswitch
* Hand edit new smb.conf to match the old config.
* Export ldif file from old LDAP db
* Dump old Domain SID using smbpassword -X
* Convert ldif using "ConvertSambaAccount --sid "
* Start new LDAP server and import new ldif file.
- Stop old server and copy all home directories to new server.
- Start new Samba Server and test..
I am hoping that cloning the SID and keeping the same server name that
my 65 Windows clients will not know the difference and everything...

Migrating to new Samba - LDAP schema change
I'm working on upgrading a Samba server from Version 2.2.8a to Version
3.0.4. One of the things I've noticed is that the samba.schema has
changed. I'll admit that I haven't done an exhaustive search yet, but in
looking over the documentation I haven't seen any mention of anything that
needs to be done to migrate an existing directory to the new schema. Are
there any tools

With sambaSamAccount, do I need an add user script and an add machine script?
Dear Folks,
With Samba 3.0.0 RC1, openldap-2.1.22, with samba as PDC and as much as possible
in LDAP, do I need to write an add user script and an add machine script? Or
does samba handle this itself? Sorry, I'm rather confused about how to go about
setting this all up.

The problem I see in the log is this error:

We're using Samba 3.0.21a-1 on a CentOS 4.2 server (kernel

it's functioning as the PDC with an OpenLDAP back end (setup
essentially straight from the Idealx.org playbook), etc.
We're trying to mount Windows shares to back them up, and
getting "permission denied" errors when trying to read
