Upgrading
Hi!
As per Thomas' advice, I upgraded R by using "update.packages()" and got the following warning messages:

I can't figure out how to specify the contriburl argument to
install.packages() properly when the packages to be installed are in a
directory on my local machine. I have in mind a command something like

...number of the additional R packages using synaptic which
reported no errors but when I run my first update.packages() as an
ordinary user I get this:

Hi,
I run windows vista ultimate in my laptop and run R 2.5
I am trying to update the packages but it comes up with an error message

Problem updating mgcv package
Hi All:
I tried to update the package mgcv from my current version 1.1-8 to mgcv version 1.2. Using the command update.packages("mgcv") to update mgcv failed in my computer and the returning message was:
"Error in old.packages(lib.loc=lib.loc, contriburl=contriburl, method=method, :no installed.packages for (?invalid) lib.loc=mgcv"
When I typed installed.packages(), I got the following information
libpath = "/usr/local/lib/R/site-library" for the installed package "mgcv".
