Even more contraptions + hardy + Wine 0.9.59 mouse problem
First of all, all other games and software work perfectly in Wine. I installed Sierra's The incredible machine - even more contraptions, which installed fine. No complaints or anything. The game started up nicely and everything seems to work fine, but my mouse buttons do not work at all. It does no register any clicks of my mouse, but I can move around the menus by moving the mouse over a button which highlights it, and then pr...

Using 'dummy.ups' for a real application, not just testing...
...as-is? I can have a simple 'c' or Python program to read my values (to determine status) and then just write a few relevant lines into a '.dev' file to be served out to the LAN with the factory NUT server tools? My file would contain something like this: ups.mfr: Tom ups.model: My Contraption battery.charge: 100 ups.status: OL input.voltage: 1.02 battery.voltage: 11.5 output.voltage: 11.2 output.current: 3.4 battery.runtime: 1000 I write this file periodically (maybe every 15-60 seconds) and the Rpi NUT server would be none the wiser and just keep supplying the constantly updated c...

Best glide wrapper under wine
...ible for such software than windows itself. Some ancient tests are shown by AppDB for such libraries, but by reading their description it seems that such results are no more applicable. If it wasn't enough, more recent wrappers are Direct3D only (nglide, psvoodoo). I'm aware that such API contraption ( Glide wrapper translated to Direct3D calls and again translated to OpenGL calls by WineD3D) would hardly show correct results, so I'm asking if anybody had any luck with them even before wasting my time to find out that none of them work correctly.

OT: High Quality Wireless Headset for Cisco IPPhones and *
Tom - here are a few suggestions Plantronics 510SL Bluetooth - they make a bundle that comes with a Bluetooth transceiver and a handset lifter. This is nice if you have users that already have Bluetooth headsets for their mobile phones, as it allows you to sync with their office phone as well. http://www.plantronics.com/north_america/en_US/products/cat29880043/cat2 9880054/prod5460016

Absolutize URLs in a string
I wonder - do we have some helper/processor/gem to automatically convert all URLs in a passed string to their canonical equivalent - i.e. with the protocol, host and such prepended based on the Rails environment. Super-duper infty for RSS feeds (I hate their requirement for canonical URLs everywhere). -- Julian ''Julik'' Tarkhanov please send all personal mail to me at

Channelized T1, SIP phones, HW Echo Canceller
I have a channelized T1 coming in from our telco, terminated onto a TE405. There are three channelbanks serving internal analog extensions, and about 10 Cisco 7960s. I have no reports of echo on the analog extensions (as expected). The 7960 users complain of occasional echo (seems like 1 in 5 calls). Only the SIP user hears the echo, not the caller. I have echocancel=yes, echotraining=yes,

How dows RoR work?
This is so frustrating. Is RoR that easy to learn or is it hype or is it just me? I wonder how many newbies like me are surfing the docs trying to get a clue of the basics. Every tutorial I find is much the same, and seems to skip the fundmental parts. How should you understand the Ruby API http://api.rubyonrails.org/? What is < ActionController::Base? Can''t I set a cookie under

Multithreading
Hi. I need to execute a function from within a GUI. This seems to be no problem but this function takes about 4 minutes to finish, which means the application doesn't react at all, while the function is running. Can I execute a function as a separate Thread, while keeping control(e.g. a reference) of it at the same time? If not, how do this with a class containing this function? thanks,

UPS rating for SOHO asterisk box
Slightly OT, but I think this is of possible interest to many of you, I need to get a UPS for my asterisk box. They are rated in VA but I can't quite figure out how that converts to real life. I have a PIII-800 box with two X100P and one TDM400P plus graphics adapter, an IDE hard drive etc. Will a small 400VA box be enough for this? tia

Automatic jump from line to line for incoming calls and the problem in DAHDI
Dears; I am facing the following problem: Already we requested from the service provider to enable the auto jumping service for our analoge telephone lines, so because we have 4 telephone lines from the service provider, then if you called line # 1 and it was busy, then the call will be sent to any available line #2 or #3 or #4, and if you call line # 3 and it was busy then the call will be sent
