Linear Mixed Model set-up
Hello, I have some data covering contaminant concentrations in fish over a time period of ~35 years. Each year, multiple samples of fish were taken (with varying sample sizes each year). Ultimately, I want an estimation of the variance between years, and the variance within years + random effects. I used a linear mixed model to estimate these variances, but after reading a number of different

Adding non-data line to legend ggplot2 Maximum Contaminant Level
Hello everyone, I have a plot showing chloride concentrations for various point over time. I also have a dotted line that show the Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (my screening limit) on the graphs at 250 mg/L. But I can not figure out how to include the dotted line / Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level in the legend. Any thoughts? My code is as following and is linked to my data on the

conservative robust estimation in (nonlinear) mixed models
Conservative robust estimation methods do not appear to be currently available in the standard mixed model methods for R, where by conservative robust estimation I mean methods which work almost as well as the methods based on assumptions of normality when the assumption of normality *IS* satisfied. We are considering adding such a conservative robust estimation option for the random effects to

Data contamination
Dear experts, Helps are badly needed. I'm trying to generate a panel data with error term from N(0,1) and alpha from U(0,20).Explanatory variables are from multivariate std normal distn. Problem arised when I tried to contaminate the data in Y by adding additional term from N(50,1). I ask the computer to choose 5 random data from Y by using the command runif(5,1,50) since we have 50 data

Adding non-data line to legend ggplot2 Maximum Contaminant Level
I just glanced at the problem but I think you would have to create a new variable to replace the hline. What about adding some text annotation in the graph instead? Adding non-data line to legend ggplot2 Maximum Contaminant Level
Well, here is one way but it seems a bit clumsy. In words, I created a new data.frame with "250" in the Chloride vector and "SMCL" in the Detections vector and supplessed one legend. Warning: For my convenience I am using different data.frame names . library(ggplot2) MyData <-read.csv("http://doylesdartden.com/Stats/TimeSeriesExample.csv", sep=",")

gamm: problems with corCAR1()
Dear all, I?m analyzing this dataset containing biodiversity indices, measured over time (Week), and at various contaminant concentrations (Treatment). We have two replicates (Replicate) per treatment. I?m looking for the effects of time (Week) and contaminant concentration (Treatment) on diversity indices (e.g. richness). Initial analysis with GAM models showed temporal autocorrelation of

Off-topic: Comparing standard errors from simulation and analytical model
Dear list: I'm hoping to tap in to the statistical expertise in the group, especially those familiar with simulation techniques. I'm finalizing a study where I obtain standard errors from two sources. The first source is a monte carlo simulation and the other source is an analytical model I have developed that appears to recover the standard errors from the simulation. All analysis are

[OFF] The "best" tool for a space-temporal analyses?
Hi, I try to make an analyses to discover what is the time that an area begin to have spacial autocorrelation. And after, what is the number of individuals responsible for this autocorrelation. The main idea is to discover if exist a contamination of a quadrat from others quadrats and how is the population needed to make this contamination. This is very common to use automata to simulate

Rails compatible JS datepicker -- beta
hi all, I''ve built a simple javascript datepicker for use with Rails. I''m sure others exist, but think this one is quite decent without being overengineered. http://projects.exactlyoneturtle.com/date_picker/ At present there''s no Rails HTML generator method for it; later I will package it in a script/generator, but for now it is quite easy to use with Rails and

user profil wipe in a samba 4 AD domain
I look at your article, and it did not change my view about profile. As we did not use any roaming/mandatory profile, nor we have any redirection. the only roaming we have is dedicated to few users and we use NFS as they are under linux, and way more simpler to set up. Strangely we do not have problems with those profiles. Maybe I am in a situation were : "You can't see the wood for the

user profil wipe in a samba 4 AD domain
OK for the local profiles. I got both of them one call joe and the other domain.joe. Saw it, no problem about that. I copied the data from local to domain one. The thing is that after few days the domain.joe was emptied. The joe did stay the same. And I do not get why the domain.joe got blanked (all data gone) Cheers for the help Meilleures salutations / Best regards, Joseph-Andr? GUARAGNA

December LLVM bay-area social is this Thursday!
Oof. :( Offhand, I can’t think of any place in particular. As one might imagine, accommodating 50+ people isn’t always super easy for places to do. Suggestions welcome! Bootstrap or Wilcoxons' test?
Hi! I'm comparing the differences in contaminant concentration between 2 different groups of people ( N=36, N=37). When using a simple linear regression model I found no differences between groups, but when evaluating the diagnostic plots of the residuals I found my independent variable to have deviations from normality (even after log transformation). Therefore I have used bootstrap on

boxplot notches
Dear list members, Can anyone tell me how the notches in boxplot(Y~X,notch=T) are calculated? What do these notches represent exactly? I?d suppose they are Conficence Intervals for the median, but I?ve also been told they might show Least Significant Difference (LSD) equivalents. I would very much appreciate any help from you. Best regards Chris.

(OT) Does pearson correlation assume bivariate normality of the data?
Dear all, The other day I was reading this post [1] that slightly surprised me: "To reject the null of no correlation, an hypothsis test based on the normal distribution. If normality is not the base assumption your working from then p-values, significance tests and conf. intervals dont mean much (the value of the coefficient is not reliable) " (BOB SAMOHYL). To me this implied that in

IOError on clearing locks
Hi all, I''ve got a slight problem with using Ferret in unit tests. In order to create as little cross-contamination between test suites as possible, some of my tests are creating a fresh index per test case, and then calling Index#close and deleting the containing dir during the teardown. The problem comes when GC.start kicks in after the deleting the directory: IOError: IO Error
