Status of DTrace NFSv3/v4 client providers
We recently had a strange NFS performance anomaly between a V880 running
snv_124 and two NetApp filers. To investigate, a DTrace NFSv4 (and
eventually NFSv3) client provider would been extremely helpful.
Unfortunately, all I could find were a request for code review of a v3
client provider and another request for help developing a v4 provider.
Nothing seems to have come from those initiatives,

dovecot/Active Directory/KRB client (OT)
Gang,
For those who asked about making a Solaris system a Kerberos
client to Active Directory, the magic document to have is:
http://www.connectathon.org/seam1.0/files/c0101.htm
See the section "How to Configure a SEAM Client Using a Windows
2000 KDC". SEAM was Sun's Kerberos client stuff in Solaris 8;
it is just there as part of Solaris 9 and 10. These instructions
apply if one is using Solaris 9, 10, or a Windows 2003 KDC.

Problems accessing a file share using kerberos
Hi,
I'm trying to access a file share on what I believe is a netapp server
using kerberos authentication. I've done a kinit and gotten
credentials and then ran:
$ smbclient -U pedrocr //gsb-filer2/pedrocr -k -d10
This actually increased the number of credentials klist shows so looks
good in that regard. Howeever, I got the error:

[Bug 147] New: ssh dies if it gets SSH_MSG_USERAUTH_PASSWD_CHANGEREQ
...Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Component: ssh
AssignedTo: openssh-unix-dev at mindrot.org
ReportedBy: Darren.Moffat at Sun.COM
This was discovered while testing against Vandyke at Connectathon 2002.
The protocol requires that both the client and server understand that passwords
can expire. A server can send to the client SSH_MSG_USERAUTH_PASSWD_CHANGEREQ,
if the users password has expired
draft-ietf-secsh-userauth-15.txt: Section 5 says:
Normally, the server responds to this messa...

Samba 3.0.x and Netapp filers
Hi !
Siemens is migrating away from Windows fileservers to Netapp Filers.
First I thought great thats cool get rid of some more MS boxes...
But now I face troubles connecting to the shares on the filers.
Our support states a cite from netapp as: "samba is not compliant with
the specs"
Could anyone suply me with ammunition to counter that or knows why the
netapp does not allow to

Vista patchset.
...ndors/OEM's ship earlier versions
of Samba but they'll have to back-port these
patches themselves, we don't have the resources
to do this ourselves I'm afraid (and the OEMs
have to add value *somewhere* :-).
I'm hoping to get this done by next week at
the latest, I'll be at Connectathon in San Jose
running the CIFS testing but should have enough
time to get the patchset tested and available.
For any OEMs/vendors worrying about Vista and
Samba based NAS, help is on the way :-). And
please train your customers not to blindly
install whatever comes out from Redmond :-) :-).

A couple of questions
Hi,
I''ve been looking at Btrfs and have a couple of naive questions that don''t
seem to be answered on the wiki or in the articles I''ve read on the
filesystem.
First: discovering a file''s checksum value.
Here''s the scenario: software is writing some data as a fresh file. This
software happens to know (a priori) the checksum of this data; for

Still Problems with Samba 2.2.7 and Mac OSX?
(Some more info)
I have a FreeBSD server running Samba 2.2.8 now (updated from 2.2.7).. I've
turned log levels to 10... I have a user who needs this machine to do her
job, and she uses Mac OS X, the latest 10.2 updates have been applied. She
routinely cannot connect to this box, and gets an error -36, which means
she needs to reboot every time she gets this.
The logs show *NOTHING* when
