What management of samba is available for large scale deployment
I'm working for a higher education institution, and we have Novell Netware for our file sharing services. We are looking at what migration paths are available. I know samba works, we use it on a number of Solaris and Linux boxes and have it authenticate against our Windows ADS. Manually editing samba confiiguration files for up to a hundred users is OK. The challenge is how do you manage a

Samba Active Directory Domain Controller
Hello James, To your questions: *"Are DC1 and DC2 in the same geographical location?"* Yes, they are in same location, & they are in the same subnet as well. *"I'm also unclear from your message if you are still having password issues or not."* **It appears to have been resolved. When we randomly checked, users were able to change their passwords. However

a <blush> build/install question
This is probably an idiot (and certainly so basic as to be non-Dovecot) question, but I have been chasing my tail for a day or so on it, so I will, with humiliation, ask for guidance on it. Some time back I had asked if dovecot had to have a whole build tree of stuff to run or if any upgrade could be limited to just the executable and some libraries. I was told the latter, and given this

Slowdown when copying large files
...ng dummy spits on me). I'm running RH5.1, and have just upgraded samba to samba-1.9.18p8-51.3 (using the rpm from http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/5.1/samba- 1.9.18p8-51.3.i386.rpm) The setup includes several NT servers, one set up as a PDC and 2 BDCs and samba is confiigured to use the PDC for password authentication. Everything seems to work fine, except that when I try copying a largeish file (the test one I'm using is about 12M) it takes about 8-10 minutes to copy (this is on a 10M LAN). I ran top on the Linux box while I was doing this and smbd seems to start...

From the Wiki again. /Disable tools, such as resolvconf, that automatically update your /etc/resolv.conf DNS resolver configuration file. Sieve autoreply woes on test setup
Hi, I have been testing sieve in my setup with qmail-ldap and deliver on a LAN with an artificial domain name. Everything seems to be working as expected, except in cases when autoreplies (vacation, reject messages) need to be tested. The domain name is vmint, and dawnone is the hostname on which mail server is setup, so a users have address like cot at vmint, cute at vmint and dove at vmint *
