What management of samba is available for large scale deployment
...orking for a higher education institution, and we have Novell Netware
for our file sharing services. We are looking at what migration paths
are available.
I know samba works, we use it on a number of Solaris and Linux boxes and
have it authenticate against our Windows ADS. Manually editing samba
confiiguration files for up to a hundred users is OK. The challenge is how
do you manage a few thousand users with backends that auto-populate
the samba config and front ends which administrators can tweak as needed?
Does someone make a product which helps with the management of Samba and
provide features...

Samba Active Directory Domain Controller
Hello James,
To your questions:
*"Are DC1 and DC2 in the same geographical location?"*
Yes, they are in same location, & they are in the same subnet as well.
*"I'm also unclear from your message if you are still having password
issues or not."*
**It appears to have been resolved. When we randomly checked, users were
able to change their passwords. However

a <blush> build/install question
...ectories. Being that this is production, I wanted to be able
to uplevel (or fall back) quickly. I should say I build on a build
machine, since I don't want to have a compiler on the production
machines; I specified the stamped unique name of this build directory du
jour using the --prefix confiigure parm
The configure, make and make install steps all go fine. Now I have to
transfer those five files over to the target production machine, where I
had planned to reference these essential DC files, dovecot itself,
dovecot.conf, etc through links, like this:
(while resident in the build direc...

Slowdown when copying large files
...ng dummy spits on
me). I'm running RH5.1, and have just upgraded samba to
samba-1.9.18p8-51.3 (using the rpm from
http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/5.1/samba-
1.9.18p8-51.3.i386.rpm)
The setup includes several NT servers, one set up as a PDC and 2 BDCs
and samba is confiigured to use the PDC for password authentication.
Everything seems to work fine, except that when I try copying a largeish
file (the test one I'm using is about 12M) it takes about 8-10 minutes
to copy (this is on a 10M LAN). I ran top on the Linux box while I was
doing this and smbd seems to sta...

Verify resolv.conf is confiigured correctly. From the Wiki again.
/Disable tools, such as resolvconf, that automatically update your
/etc/resolv.conf DNS resolver configuration file. Active Directory (AD)
DCs and domain members must use an DNS server that is able to resolve
the AD DNS zones./
I can't recall where to conf...

Sieve autoreply woes on test setup
Hi,
I have been testing sieve in my setup with qmail-ldap and deliver on a LAN
with an artificial domain name. Everything seems to be working as expected,
except in cases when autoreplies (vacation, reject messages) need to be
tested.
The domain name is vmint, and dawnone is the hostname on which mail server
is setup, so a users have address like cot at vmint, cute at vmint and dove at vmint
