[patch V3 22/37] highmem: High implementation details and document API
...it strikes me that if people want to actually have much better debug coverage, this is where it should be (I like the "every other address" thing too, don't get me wrong). In particular, instead of these PageHighMem(page) tests, I think something like this would be better: #ifdef CONFIG_DEBUG_HIGHMEM #define page_use_kmap(page) ((page),1) #else #define page_use_kmap(page) PageHighMem(page) #endif adn then replace those "if (!PageHighMem(page))" tests with "if (!page_use_kmap())" instead. IOW, in debug mode, it would _always_ remap the page, whether it's...

This is achieved by: - Removing the RT dependency from migrate_disable/enable() - Consolidating all kmap atomic implementations in generic code including a useful version of the CONFIG_DEBUG_HIGHMEM which provides guard pages between the individual maps instead of just increasing the map size. - Switching from per CPU storage of the kmap index to a per task storage - Adding a pteval array to the per task storage which contains the ptevals of the currently active temporary kmaps - A...

[RFC PATCH V2 0/5] vhost: accelerate metadata access through vmap()
...M_TYPE_NR * smp_processor_id(); if (cache_is_vivt()) __cpuc_flush_dcache_area((void *)vaddr, PAGE_SIZE); However on arm 64bit kunmap_atomic is not implemented at all and other 32bit implementations don't do it, for example sparc seems to do the cache flush too if the kernel is built with CONFIG_DEBUG_HIGHMEM (which makes the flushing conditional to the debug option). The kunmap_atomic where fixmap is used, is flushing the tlb lazily so even on 32bit you can't even be sure if there was a tlb flush for each single page you unmapped, so it's hard to see how the above can work safe, is "page&...
