samba-tool group removemembers, not working
Because of other issues using ADUC, I tried to remove a domain member using: > samba-tool group removemembers "Domain Computers" MARKA\$ Removed members from group Domain Computers As shown, it say it "Removed members", but ... > samba-tool group listmembers "Domain Computers" : LABRAT$ : OHPRSSTORAGE$ MARKA$ : COMMON$ : listmembers still shows the computer as a member of "Domain Computer...

Computer accounts belonging to groups, using winbind on file server
...9;t - and it shows that the computer accounts are definitely members of the group in question: [root at fileserver ~]# wbinfo --group-info sw-dist sw-dist:x:12345:computer$,computer2$,computer3$,computer4$ All of this inevitably leads to the key directories in question not being accessible by the computers who need them. When the computer account connects to the file server, its group memberships don't really seem to work. I suspect that sssd had different behaviour to winbind in this regard. Has anybody else successfully served out files to a computer account belonging to a specific group, usin...

Two R sessions on multicore computer seem to inhibit each other ?
...running two R sessions in parallel. These do very well in using the full CPU of the computer (half each) and don't seem to slow each other down. Today I have started some large computation effort in one of our university labs, and I intended to go for two R sessions per computer as well. These computers are all identical and have Intel Core i5, 3.3 GHz processors with four cores, and they are used for my computations and nothing else at the moment. When I run one R session (32 bit) on them, the Windows task manager shows CPU usage at about 25%. If I add another R session that should also use as mu...

Fwd: Re: [friday topic]: what exactly is statistical computing
This is a very fascinating discussion topic. I find I run into some fundamental differences in interpretation of the phrase "statistical computing". I think of it as writing programs or functions, such as R or packages in R, and of understanding the numerical analysis behind these functions. I exclude USING computer programs, such as R, for data analysis from my definition of

Setting uidNumber for machine accounts
...re members would need gidNumber assigned as well. I understand the OP in this post [2] had the following use case: A startup script uses the computer account to access a samba server. Questions: 1. Which groups should or should not be assigned gidNumber? The issue [1] indicates that "Domain Computers" should indeed have gidNumber. However my assignment logic [3] specifically excludes "Domain Computers" based on the original recommendation from this post [4] which says "Which groups should be excluded? Just about all the groups that a provision provides, with the exception of...

LAN Browsing shows IP Addresses instead of Computer Names.
...dd a new computer, the ip addresses will be different for each computer. anyway let me give you the specs first. Running Samba 2.2.8a-1 on Red Hat 7.3. I have not set up WINS or DNS at all. I have set up lisarc to use nmblookup. I'm assuming that my network is using broadcasting to get computers in my LAN since i have not set up any computer names in hosts or lmhosts. The current set up works right now in that computers come up and can be browsed independant of the ip addresses assigned to the computers. ie. if computer Tron is up on the network, and then I boot up Sark, Sark will sh...

Computer accounts belonging to groups, using winbind on file server
Thank you Rowland, I like your thinking - made sense to me. I had already allocated a GID to Domain Computers: [root at fileserver ~]# getent group Domain\ Computers domain computers:x:12345: however I just now tried adding a uidNumber attribute to one of my computer objects using ADSIEdit and hey presto, that computer now appears in 'getent passwd'! I wonder if there is some fix that could be m...

Problem disablin computer objects
I have many computers in my domain with different operating systems such as Windos XP, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 1404, I disable a computer with windows, then restart the computer, but I can log on to the computer with a user who has never logged on it. Do this for a computer with ubuntu and then it works, do not let me...

Adding/removing domain workstations
I am running Samba4 version 4.2.12 as our office AD/DC. Two questions on domain member computers: 1) When I un-join a Windows 7 workstation from the domain (Start > Computer > Properties > Advanced > Computer Name > Change > Member of: Workgroup), it does not remove that computer from the list of domain computer. I have to either use samba-tool or (Windows)RAS Users and Com...

samba-tool group removemembers, not working
...omain. Normally, I do that with ADUC, no problem. But for some reason I was having trouble with ADUC (since resovled, magically), so I thought I'd try the same thing using samba-tool. That's it really. You wrote further: > I hope you can see that trying to remove a computer from Domain Computers will not work because > the 'backlinks' do not exist. Fine, I can live with that. But then how do you actually remove a member computer from the domain? Is ADUC the only way to do it? As to Louis' ldap request, yes, 'kinit Administrator' did the trick on that one. The outp...

samba-tool group removemembers, not working
Actually, I do/did leave the domain in the normal Windows way. But the (former) domain member computer still always show both in ADUC and samba-tool group listmembers "Domain Computers". So, I normally do a 2nd step by deleting the computer with ADUC. After doing so the computer no longer shows with samba-tool group listmembers "Domain Computers". I was simply looking for a way to do this 2nd step with samba-tool if ADUC happens to not be available. I don'...
