net rpc rights grant on a standalone server
I have a standalone samba server. I want to configure it so that the
"admins" local unix group has the ability to view / close open files
through compmgmt.msc. I assume that what I need to do is run "net rpc
rights grant [username] SeDiskOperatorPrivilege".
Is this the correct privilege? Can these commands be run on a standalone
server? What is the proper syntax for granting this privilege to a group
rather than a user?

MS-RPC, LSARPC and Named Pipes end points
...ng further into that subject, after some more reading and
tcpdump'ing, I started to do some test blocking the dynamic range for a
few workstations, and I didn't had the users yelling back at me. On the
other hand some administrative tasks like AD replication, remote server
management in compmgmt.msc do really need those ports accessible. But
for a standard use of workstation, I didn't get any issues so far (for
our internal use case).
I was also wondering what are the common points and the differences
between LSARPC, RPC over SMB, and MS-RPC/DCE-RPC:

I've got as far as compiling 4.1.6 and setting up a similar share.
Server role = member server, security = ads.
Problems so far are :
Lack of SeDiskOperator privilege for Domain Admins users (logging when
trying to change share permissions through compmgmt.msc suggested a lack
of that role). This was afaik automatic with 3.6. Trying to set it up :
net rpc rights grant franksa SeDiskOperator -U administrator
Enter administrator's password:

recommendations for new AD with samba as backup DC
Hi
you don't need a Windows-DC it's much better and easier if you set up
both DCs with the same OS. 4.19 comes with FL 2016 (if you need it). The
GPOs work absolutely the same as with a windows DC. You can use RSAT to
do it.

Still can't figure out ACL issues
Thank you for your reply.
If you happen to read the post of 11/22, you will notice that it was not
me who spoke ill of Samba.
I put my bets on other people being able to figure it out; I hope that
one of them will help me.
Sincerely

Question about remote users and groups management
...ast section: "Managing your DB". Then, I have read
"Oreilly, Using Samba 3rd". In the 9th chapter (
http://book.opensourceproject.org.cn/sysadmin/samba/sambao3rd/opensource/0596007698/samba3-chp-9-sect-7.html
), section 7th, i can see tree figures: 9-14, 9-17 and 9-19, are shown
compmgmt.msc from a workstation Windows XP/2k3, connected remotely to
SLES9 computer (linux with samba3), and it shows the "Users and Groups
Management".
And ... here's my question: this should works in a PDC Samba 3.2 that
uses as backend LDAP+winbind? ... because I can't get works....

what to do in worst case scenario: samba pdc not available
Hi,
my question no really concerns 100% to Samba but since I use Samba ...
I use Samba 3.0.13 as an PDC and have about 40 WinXp Pro Clients.
I was wondering what happens if the WinXP Pro Clients won?t have any
connection to the Samba Server anymore. Maybye due an error in the
network or the PDC died for some reason.
Is there any way to quickly change the clients profile to a local
profile? I
