Not so complex CompleteConfiguration example of a Complete Configuration?
I am new to Puppet and very eager to apply it to a project. But I am somewhat stymied by the learning curve. So far I''ve found many very simple examples of how to modify a file or add a user and a very complex example http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/CompleteConfiguration . I have not been able to find any other examples of a total configuration tree (ie /etc/puppet/*) that I can learn from and try as an initial deployment that I can then tweak and add too. That would allow me to get started and learn by doing. So my request, is, does anyone have an ex...

Module interaction and dependencies in Puppet (SNMP in particular)
Hello folks, I''m sitting here converting my static, simple classes/snmp.pp into a full module, and I''ve run into a bit of a brick wall. net-snmp is one of those wonderful programs that will only read two configuration files (it reads a few more, but only 2 are in /etc) - /etc/snmpd.conf and /etc/snmpd.local.conf. This means that my SNMP module is somehow going to have to

modules and parser plugins: function unknown
Hi, We are totally sold on Pupet (what a nice concept) and are trying to setup a proof-of-concept. We are trying to learn a bit from other people''s work by integrating external modules. One of the modules we wanted to start with was the ''ntp'' module from David Schmitt. It clearly uses some functionalities from the ''common'' module, which we also

If/else issues.
Can some one point out to me what I am missing? I suspect I have messed up the if/else some how. I am getting a '' Syntax error at ''{''; expected ''}'' at /srv/puppet/production/manifests/modules/apache/init.pp: 19''. According to the Language tutorial this should be correct. I am testing for an existence of a variable. If it exists chagne the

Array of files and other questions...
Hi I''m quite new to the art of writing puppet manifest, but the more I see, the more I like it :-) I''m trying to write a djbdns dnscache module. dnscache configuration is spread in several files, for instance the ip addresses allowed to query the cache each have a file in dnscache/root/ip/ whose filename is the address. I''m trying to automate the creations of those

order, managing one file and refreshonly
Hello! I''m quite newbie to puppet. I''ve got 3 questions: 1. I''ve noticed, that puppet apply defined classes/modules in specyfic order. I''ve got something like this im my configs: /etc/puppet/cf/manifests/site.pp: import "networks/*/site.pp" node generic_node { include "puppet" include "apt" include "debian" } ---

Modules, namespaces and variables
Hi there, After quite a long time out of puppet business I''m back, and the first thing I''m doing is rephrasing my puppet manifests using modules. I started with the NTP module (a classic, I guess). I have (more or less) the following: In modules/ntp/manifests/init.pp: $ntp_localtime = "/usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Madrid" class ntp { ... some stuff using the

sharing modules scalably
Hi, [First, a quick introduction... I''m one of the sysadmins at Koumbit.org, and we''re evaluating puppet for managing our modest server farm. I''ve already started writing recipes and manifests and intend to share those with this community. Part of my time worked on this will be directly paid by Koumbit.] So we''ve got a few half-finished puppet modules here:

Facter and arrays
Hi, Is it possible to have an array as the output of a custom fact? And then to pass it into a template in Puppet? I currently have a fact that looks like this: Facter.add("exports") do setcode do case Facter.hostname when (/thishost/i): [ "/local", "/local2" ] end end end & a template like this: <%

State of Development
Hi all, I''m sure you''re all wondering what the heck is going on with development and why there are so many open tickets. Hopefully this email will answer those questions for you. REST Development ====================== First, I''ve found the REST work to be significantly more complicated than I''d feared. The plumbing is nearly all done and the majority

require metaparameter and gems
I tried to install the ''mongrel'' gem tonight via puppet in an attempt to migrate from webrick to mongrel as described on the puppet site[1]. I added the following to my manifest: package { "rubygems": ensure => installed; "mongrel": ensure => installed, provider => gem, require => Package["rubygems"]; }
