Access comonents in lists of lists
Dear R users,I have a list of equally structured lists, how can I access e.g. all 2nd compontents in those sub-lists?An example:lst <- list(rep(list(1:3),3), rep(list(4:6),3))> lst[[1]][[1]][[1]][1] 1 2 3[[1]][[2]][1] 1 2 3[[1]][[3]][1] 1 2 3[[2]][[2]][[1]][1] 4 5 6[[2]][[2]][1] 4 5 6[[2]][[3]][1] 4 5 6What I want to get are all second sub-lists, in this case:[[1]][[2]][1] 1 2

PCA and Regression
Hello, I am currently analyzing responses to questionnaires about general attitudes. I have performed a PCA on my data, and have retained two Principal Components. Now I would like to use the scores of both the principal comonents in a multiple regression. I would like to know if it makes sense to use the scores of one principal component to explain the variance in the scores of another principal

values for the scree plot (package psych)
Hello, I am using function princomp from the package psych. I have my principle component object mypc: mypc <- princomp(covmat=mycor) plot(mypc) # shows me a screeplot Question: how could I actually see the values displayed in the screeplot. I don't mean on the graph - I just want to know the actual value for each component (e.g., 10, 3.2, 1.8, etc.) I need to know how much variance,

Problems logging in
Hello People, I am experiencing some weird Problems using samba on a linux server that is supposed to connect the windows an Macintosh world in our production team. So far everything works fine - i've set up a directory called "comon" that is accessible from almost every Windwos workstation and almost every user. The problem is "almost". There is actually one user, that

Problems with Dovecot and self-signed cert
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've recently set up a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 WS server, and decided to try using Dovecot as my IMAP server, as I was impressed with the dedication to security that seems to be the core development goal. I'm really happy with it, but I can't get it to work with a self-signed cert. Normally, on a RHEL system, you just go into

2 lme questions
Greetings, 1) Is there a nice way of extracting the variance estimates from an lme fit? They don't seem to be part of the lme object. 2) In a series of simulations, I am finding that with ML fitting one of my random effect variances is sometimes being estimated as essentially zero with massive CI instead of the finite value it should have, whilst using REML I get the expected value. I guess

Losing Home Directories
...rds, we are mapping their home as f: on their machines and they will periodically be unable to access f: (incorect password or username). Here is why this is a problem, the users losing their home mappings are on WinNT4 and 2k, other users on NT and 2k are not losing the mappings. There is no comonality in department or usage. No other mapping is going stale (most users have at least 5 shares mapped) and (here's what kills me) when the user encounters the problem, going into "Network Neighborhood" -> SambaServer - -> username will allow access to the share, AND returning t...

Restore fails on new server
I had to replace a server. Backed up the entire system using Clonezilla, created the partitions on the new server exactly as they were (hardware is identical) and then restored the backup onto the new server. On attempting to boot, I get a couple of ACPI errors and then an error connecting to a data drive that holds no system files and then Ubuntu panics and puts me into a recovery mode with no

Cannot start Xend . Xen 3.2 rc4. Permission denied error 13.
I end up with the same error after building and running xen-stable 3.2-rc4 on both Ubuntu 7.10 and Fedora Core 6. I am using AMD64 builds. I have carefully followed the instruction on the xenbits.xensource.com on building Xen unstable. After booting with the new Xen and dom0 kernel, I cannot use any Xen tools (such as xm) from Dom0. I have tried restarting Xend but it fails with the same errors.

RGL package surface plot
I'm completely new at R... I have sinkhole survey data (lat, long, and elevation) and have been trying to plot a rotatable 3d plot for several hours... cannot get it right. Examples I see tend to be grid data (one elevation value per grid cell); however, my data are more random (known elevations at known (but random) x-y positions). Data format is tab separated, i.e.: lat long

clients not connecting to samba shares
My Samba setup was working until several months ago. I didn't do anything to it that I can recall but it stopped letting my Windows VMs connect. When I use smbclient to try to connect, I get session setup failed: NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS My Internet searches have revealed that this is a comon and long-standing issue: frequently reported but I've had no luck finding anyone posting a

Strip location and grid colour in Lattice
I am probably missing something quite obvious, but any help would be appreciated. I am continually getting people misreading the lattice plots because they are expecting the strip (with the factor names in them) to be below the graph. Is there anyway of achieving this. Secondly, from a more personal note I find the grid formed by the axes to be a bit overpowering and would like to make it a

SSH Automatic Log-on Failure - Centos 5.5
Hallo, I wanted to avoid typing-in my password every occasion I remotely logged-on to a server. I created my SSH keys and copied the public part to the server and renamed it authorized_keys. My command line is: ssh root at xxxxxx.com -p 1234 The output shows the logging-on routine wants 3 types of authentication. Surely one successful authentication is sufficient ? OpenSSH_4.3p2, OpenSSL
