help with repeated values
I have a huge college dataset and I want to be able to find which colleges appear more than once in the dataset. How would I go about doing this? The variable college is a factor. If I just do table(college) it is impossible to find where there are repetitions. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Lynna [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

How do I read a text (.csv) file to match a matrix/cross tab? (Object confusion??)
I'm having a problem reading data to set control totals for a dataframe. I want to adjust a dataframe based on a 2-d table of values, which I get by using : > CurrentX1Sums <- as.matrix(xtabs(~tripid_nu+lineon, data=SurveyData)) > CurrentX2Sums <- apply(CurrentX1Sums, 1, sum) I've created a .csv file with new (target) sums that looks like this: tripid_nu Warner

College student printer for CentOS 5.4 x86_64?
Oldest son came back from college and wants a printer for his Dell laptop. I built it with CentOS 5.3 x86_64 several months ago and will upgrade it to 5.4 The Cannon printer he now has (bought with the laptop and Vista through the university book store), doesn't seem to have linux drivers. I built the machine with Vista and CentOS in dual-boot, so he could manage his iTunes and use the

Can Dovecot do this...
...an email via her personal phone system to a college financial person who would never see her personal address. Upon receiving a reply, she then could send the state governor an email and it would appear to the governor as if it came from her college account. I have been told by my management other colleges are doing this with Postfix and SASL. I posted a question about this to a Postfix list and I was told Dovecot was the best SASL to use for implementing this. So, the project as it has been described to me is this: We will make no changes to the three gateway systems. We will add a new gateway sys...

Any small colleges/universities using PBX or Voicemail?
...n ACTIVE newsgroup! I'm in the early stages of researching Asterisk. My current environment is a small college (~1000 sets/~400 student sets), Avaya Definity G3si/Seimens Rolm Phonemail. As you can imagine, the maintenance, licensing, and equipment costs are HEFTY. So.. are there any small colleges/universities using PBX or Voicemail? If so, I'd be interested in your migration path. What equipment was replaced, and how did you handle the loss of investment in any proprietary sets? Many thanks, Brian Hudson

Group permission problems with winbind & NFS
I am wondering whether anyone might also be seeing the problems I am currently encountering -- and maybe even someone knows of a solution that I cannot seem to find. First, to whet your appetite, the problem: I have an otherwise functional samba+winbind system, that I am primarily using winbind to instantiate users & groups from a Win2K3-based ADS, to allow clients ssh/scp/sftp access to

Data source for American college football rankings?
An interesting, and topical, example of multivariate data for classroom illustrations are the American college football rankings. Starting at the end of October (or "week 8", the 8th week of the football season) a set of rankings called the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) will be published. This is a composite ranking based on two subjective polls, the Harris and USA Today polls, and a

Routing changes break NAT (not a shorewall question)

database got corrupted, users could not login
I'm running Samba with LDAP on SuSE. Users had trouble logging in - finally I just ran db_recover & restarted ldap and samba. It looks like the LDAP database got corrupted somehow because samba couldn't get the LDAP data. Also I created accounts with smbldap-useradd -m -a -B 1 username. Some of the users were just using the same password samba seemed to kick them out. I used
