retpoline mitigation and 6.0
So, I was waiting to hear a definitive response on whether using aliases is hard, and didn't see one here, which is why I haven't responded further. However, a colleauge pointed me at an LKML thread where it seems there *is* a definitive response? I'm really looking for clear direction: we can try to implement custom naming, but it will add undesirable complexity to the compiler. Do we need it for the kernel? I have to ask because I genuinely don't know wh...

Aliases are hard when the compiler is directly emitting calls to a function which is exported to modules, yet the compiler and the kernel disagree on what the symbol is actually called. I spent a happy Sunday evening...

power and sample size for a GLM with Poisson response variable
...inal Message----- From: Craig A. Faulhaber [mailto:caf at gis.usu.edu] Sent: Saturday, March 04, 2006 12:04 PM To: Wassell, James T., Ph.D. Subject: Re: [R] power and sample size for a GLM with Poisson response variable Hi James, Thanks again for your help. With the assistance of a statistician colleauge of mine, I figured out the "constraints" vector. It is a 3-column vector describing the null hypothesis. For example, let's say you have 3 populations and your null hypothesis is that there is no difference between the 3. The first row of the matrix would be "3 1 2" indi...

The hidden costs of GPL software?
Hello, In the latest 'Scientific Computing World' magazine (issue 78, p. 22), there is a review on free statistical software by Felix Grant ("doesn't have to pay good money to obtain good statistics software"). As far as I know, this is the first time that R is even mentioned in this magazine, given that it usually discuss commercial products. In this article, the analysis
