Port Forwarding
Is ''port forwarding'' a relatively new thing with packet filtering? Or has
it always been available since iptables appeared on the scene.

samba and passwords
I got a problem.
Samba is in place and working on my linux machine but when I try and use
Windows to map a drive
it asks for a password and doesn't know the one I enter.
How can I enter a new one, or find the one I currently have in place?

running. I checked the logs and there is nothing showing in there as to
why this daemon stops. SMBD is running there just fine, but not NMBD ??

The use of Samba
...han
just allow access to each of these machines.
Right now I can sit at any machine and access any others. I can move files
around I can play music files from any machine and I can print on any Printer
that is in the network.
What more can I look forward to?? Or is this it??

MASQ views
Wondering about being able to see MASQ activities with IPTABLES.
With IPCHAINS I used -M -L to make this possible. Nothing like that with
iptables, at least as far as I can see.
Any thoughts on that fellows..

nmbd -D
...nmbd' will start but not continue to run. I can still access the
network without it though, so not sure the relevance of this daemon..
Any thoughts on why this is happening and what does this file do??
Maybe smbd is the only one needed? If not how do I keep it running..

log files - slackware
Does anyone use slackware with samba? And if so, are they able to produce
'log.nmbd' files? I can't. But I can do this just fine with RH8.0.
By the way - my version of Slackware is 8.1

ptyxx ports
...2.6 kernels we have lost the ability to use ptyxx and ttyxx for
the installation of various ports. I am thinking of attaching a modem
etc to an axip or other similar port and for that I always used
ptyxx/ttyxx to do this.
How is this done with the 2.6 kernels?

autoLogin
...alled Centos (version 4.4) and wondering how I can change things
so I don't have to login.
I am aware of the security implications for doing this but I would prefer
this if I can do it.
I believe it has something to do with autologin and if so how is this
configured ??

passwords
could someone please give me the lowdown on samba and passwords? i keep
trying to connect to any share name on either of my unix boxes, either
from each other or from a win95 machine... every time i can't get
anything due to passwords... does samba have it's own password file?
from trial-and-error it seems that it doesn't read out your /etc/passwd
file for user's home dirs...

Shorewall Setup.
...f I can be so bold as to ask you to quickly run through those
files above and if I am in big trouble, well i can live with that.
But at the moment - EVERYTHING seems to work just fine The axip link is
streaming right along, and my two lan machines haven''t missed a beat.
